My head yanked backwards as my flattering eyes. "Up, up." I pop open my eyes as I look forward seeing Andrea and Amy back from fishing so my mom. A lot of fish were caught too. While they were gone was getting my hair done by my mother. She said the madness of it was upsetting so she cornrowed it down to my back.
As the two came closer it made everyone's neck turn in amazement. We've never seen this much fish before at least not me. Morales ran to retrieve one as Andrea him his own. He thanked her and Amy for providing his family with food.
Everyone clapped at their work but I kept mine down. Sometimes I forget we have walkers walking around. "Thank dale. It's his canoe fishing gear." Andrea informed before giving my mother a high-five.
"That looks painful." Amy whispered at me and I look up at her because my head was tender. "You think." I whimper. "Where did you two learn to do that?" Lori asked and Amy turned away from me to pay attention.
"Our dad." My face saddens at the mentioning of dads but hey aren't almost every separate kids teen or adult are fatherless right now in the walker apocalypse? "Can you teach me how to do that?" Carl asked and for a minute I could see how much he resembles his dad especially in the eyes and mannerisms like the head tilts.
I seen Rick do that when talking to me at the department store yesterday but i threw the funny feeling inside of me out the window because I felt like I was cheating on Anthony.
It's obvious that he's dead but I still love him and ain't no friendly, charming police officer gonna make me fold even though I think I already did.
"Sure. I'll teach you all about nails knots and stuff." Amy joked and Andrea playfully glared at her. "If that's okay." She asked Lori's permission.
"You won't catch me arguing." The lady replied. I see dale coming around the corner with a long face so I stand up "Hey dale. When's the last time you oiled those line reels? They're a disgrace." Andrea says as he looks at us.
"I, uh." He was hesitant to say something but for some reason I already knew what he was talking about. "I don't want to alarm to alarm anyone, but we may have a bit of a problem." He points at Jim who was in a distance digging.
"What in the hell." The adults and children got up to look but I grab the kids. "did someone die?" Carl me and I shrugged. "Carl and Sophia stay with Krystal." Lori said seeing that I held on to them. I never had siblings because I am basically the only child but was almost the old sibling. When I was ten years old my mother was 6 months pregnant but the baby died when she got into a car accident.
To this day I'm happy she didn't go with it but sometimes I wish he survived. We found out its gender right after and she was so devastated. She wanted to name him Nikolai. He would've been 12 years old some time now. I don't even know what day it is.
"Is Jim okay?" Sophia asked snapping me out of my thoughts. "Uh, I think he's just bored like the rest of us. Hey how about you two help me get some wood for the fire?" I say and they got excited. "Let's go." I nod and pick up a crowbar for any walkers that might be spotted.
Sophia and Carl slowly walk through the woods. The sunlight filters through the leafy branches, casting patterns of light and shadows across their faces. I pause to listen for any sounds of danger. The occasional bird chirp or rustle of a small animal is all they hear. Suddenly, Carl spots something. He nudges Sophia and whispers, "I think I just saw a branch that would be perfect for the campfire."
I smile at his participation as a young boy who wants to be the leader then suddenly I hear a yell. Sophia and Carl are getting nervous. They knew something was wrong but I assured that it was just adults were talking. Carl wasn't buying it at all. "I'm not stupid Krystal I know they're arguing." He rolled his little blue eyes and I shake my head with a smile. They scan the trees around them as they walk, searching for branches that would be ideal for the campfire. Then they see it. A fallen branch, just the right size. They rush over and grab it, relieved to have finally found what they need. Now all they have to do is get it back to camp.
