Bye New Orleans Pt. 2

"Shakeria, can you finish the patient for me. Room 203" Dr. Parker said to me.

I nodded and got my chart and pen.

"She needs 2 shots. They're ready in the medicine room."

I walked into our medicine room to grab the two needles. Then I walked into room 203 to be greeted by a little girl and her mom.

"Hi' I smiled.

She saw the needles and forced a smile. I looked at my chart.

"Okay Dejah, you're 8 right?"

She nodded slowly. I smiled.

I put my chart down and walked to her.

"Okay Dejah, you only have to get 2 shots okay? They'll be quick, I promise"

She slowly nodded, unsure if I was being truthful or not. I grabbed the cotton ball and dipped it in the cleaning solution. She held her arm out as I wiped over her upper arm.

I grabbed the first needle. She held her mom's hand. I held her arm and quickly inserted the needle in her arm. She jumped. When I finished, I put a band-aid over it. Then I cleaned her other arm. Once again, I inserted the needle in her arm, injecting the medicine in her.

I trashed the needles.

"All done. Mom, you can get her prescription from Dr.Parker"

She nodded and I left out.

NEXT DAY

I loved Atlanta. It was warm weather, and a new environment. My job was going great. I live in the suburbs. Its quiet, something I enjoy.

I drove to the strip mall. I visited the mall once every 2 weeks . Plus, my friend Cierra's babyshower is next week and I gotta get her some stuff.

I was in children's place, looking at the newborn baby clothes. I smiled seeing the pink little tutu's. I looked down at my stomach, wondering when I would start my own family.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around.

My eyes were wide.

"It.. It really is you" he, August, said.

I shyly smiled.

"Um, yeah" I said.

His nieces were behind him. They waved and I waved back.

"Yall can go pick out some outfits" he told them.

He turned back to me.

"They said it was Shakeria, and I had to look for myself "

I smiled and nodded.

"I haven't seen you in almost 2 years. You looking good" he said licking his lips.

I Chuckled . "You look good too, it's been a while "

"How you been? " he asked.

"Im good, how are you"

He nodded. "Im straight. I see you looking at baby clothes, you pregnant?"

I chuckled. "No, its for my friend. "

He smiled. His nieces were running to him holding up clothes.

"How about we catch up, tomorrow night? If..you're not busy " he said taking the purple shirt from Mya.
