XIII, The Tree

As Lucy Gray performed on stage, I crossed the dance floor to follow Snow who slipped away without knowing why. Discreetly, I slipped behind him following him to the back of the bar, he opened the door and I slipped behind him to see Sejanus talking with the leader of the revolutionaries, Spruce, while his men held weapons.

I walked into the room and looked at all the rest of the weapons on the table, hoping Snow could understand the situation and wouldn't report Spruce, otherwise he would be hanged.

- What are you doing ? Coriolanus asks. Weapons, Sejanus?

- I didn't know they would buy weapons, Coryo, they lied to me!

- For what ? Do you think they are honest? You're crazy, there are peacemakers in every corner!

- Besides, we have one here with us! Spruce said, stepping forward, his gun in hand. And we have the mayor's daughter.

- You're not going to kill her after all? I ask, stepping forward.

- Calm down Spruce, I'm the one who planned it, he'll help us! Sejanus told him in a calm voice.

Lucy comes into the room in a hurry and I close my eyes with a sigh, I didn't like it, I really didn't.

- Did you invite the whole town of Plinth? Asks the boss.

- Don't worry Spruce, she's with me! Says Billy.

I roll my eyes and Mayfair starts bawling which gives my hand a terrible itch, maybe if I hit her it would get better?

- My father will hang you all for this!

Spruce raises his gun ready to shoot the redhead but his ciao un intervenes, they start to argue and I take a step back as Coriolanus slips his hand into mine to reassure me.

- What do you say Lucy Gray? It's true that I talk but I don't do anything, did you enjoy your stay at the Capitol by the way?

She turns on her heel to leave and Spruce argues with Lucy's ex so that he doesn't shoot Mayfair while Coriolanus walks towards the weapons. I look away for a moment as Lucy Gray then, suddenly, a gunshot rings out and I jump, the redhead falls to the ground with a groan of pain and my eyes widen.

- Oh my God ! I said hurriedly.

I raise my head towards Coriolanus and place my hands over my mouth.

- Why did you do that? I ask my boyfriend.

I feel nausea creeping up on me and I close my eyes to try to calm my breathing, which is ragged with fear and shock.

- If your boyfriend wasn't a rebel, now he is! Spruce said.

I place my palms on my eyes and turn so as not to have to look at the body of this girl, I didn't particularly like her but Coriolanus killed her...

- Hey, Erato, it's going to be okay. Snow said calmly to me, taking my head in his hands. We'll both get through this, no one will know it's us.

- Because you think you're going to get through this? Asks Billy. Are you going to blame she's death on me?

- I told you to calm down! Orders Spruce.

- The little guy from the Capitol will be surprised, if I have to be hanged for this death, you will be hanged with me! He writes to himself before running towards Coriolanus.

Another neck of fire roars and he collapses on the ground as I start to panic just like Lucy who Sejanus tries to calm down although he is just as scared. I miss the air and close my eyes, shaking my head as the air begins to become difficult to breathe.
