Pain, excruciating pain!
The bone-deep agony permeated every inch of Zhang Yi's body.
It wasn't a sensation; it was the harsh reality unfolding upon him.
At this moment, he was being ruthlessly torn apart by the very friends and neighbors he had once trusted and helped.
In this post-apocalyptic era of scarcity, they disregarded the help Zhang Yi had extended to them and wielded knives without hesitation.
In his final moments, he vaguely saw his goddess, Fang Yuqing, standing at the back of the crowd, pitifully shouting, "I let him open the door; you have to leave me a piece of his ribs for soup!"
It was this woman who deceived Zhang Yi into opening the door, leading to his demise.
Zhang Yi stared at her, his eyes filled with hatred and regret.
Blame could only be placed on his own naivety and kindness, turning him into a source of sustenance for others in this apocalypse.
How he wished for a chance to start anew.
Next time, he wouldn't be merciful to anyone; he would live for himself!
Zhang Yi's vision darkened quickly as he lost consciousness.
Yet, in the next moment, he abruptly opened his eyes and sat up from the couch.
The hellish scene he had just experienced, that dreadful pain, was vivid in his memory.
Gasping for breath, he soon found himself drenched in sweat.
"What happened? Wasn't I killed by those savage neighbors?"
After coming to his senses, Zhang Yi began surveying his surroundings.
This place wasn't unfamiliar; it was his own house.
The comfortable temperature in the air, however, struck him as exceptionally odd.
In December 2050, Earth experienced a global Ice Age due to the explosion of a supernova 500,000 light-years away. Zhang Yi's hometown, Tianhai City, faced temperatures plummeting to minus sixty to seventy degrees Celsius daily. A month-long blizzard submerged the entire city.
In the northern regions of Huaguo, the temperature even reached a terrifying minus one hundred degrees, burying the land under ice and snow.
Mass extinctions occurred, wiping out a significant portion of living beings, with over ninety-five percent of humans perishing in the catastrophe.
Zhang Yi stood up, took a bottle of water from the fridge, and gulped down more than half of it.
Although the chilled water was frigid, for him now, it felt like nectar.
During the apocalypse, the only way to obtain water was by going outside, enduring extreme temperatures to melt snow.
Such tasks easily led to death by freezing.
After finishing the water, Zhang Yi checked his phone.
The time displayed was November 12th.
A whole month remained until the apocalypse arrived.
"It seems I've been reincarnated."
Taking a deep breath, Zhang Yi quickly understood what had happened.
The experiences of the past month couldn't have been a dream, especially the excruciating pain of being dismembered.
Raising his head, Zhang Yi felt immense gratitude for this second chance at life.
