I felt her fear before I heard her screams. She was having the same nightmare.

I ran to her room and shook her the first and second time didn't work but the third time worked.

Her eyes flew open and she started to cry. I took her cry body into my arms. I held her until she stopped crying.

"How long has it been since you fed?" I asked Lissa.

"One week."

"Get dressed then." She got out of bed and got dressed into white skinny jeans and a black top. She also put a leather jacket on over it with black converse.

I was wearing the same thing except I had black skinny jeans and combat boots.

We walked out and I knocked out a weak human. Lissa started to feed and I looked away.

That is the thing with us. Lissa is a moroi. The good vampires that only take as much blood from a human as they need. They also need food to survive.

There is also strigoi. The evil vampires. They are nasty and mean. If they are moroi they can willingly change. They would need to suck the feeder or human dry. If you are a dhampir like me you would be forced. Your blood would be sucked dry and then you would be fed strigoi blood.

Then there are the dhampir, like me. I am half human half moroi. I don't need blood like moroi to survive. I eat food like a regular human. I train to kill strigoi and protect moroi.

When she was done I sensed strigoi around. There was only one though.

It came behind me, I turned around and killed it. Two more came and I killed those also. When no more came I found Lissa by a wall and then we walked back to the apartment.

We were walking back to the apartment when psi hounds attacked us. I went into guardian mode and killed psi hounds left to right. After all the psi hounds were killed I looked and saw Lissa on the ground bleeding.

I ran over to her. I checked her pulse and she had a weak pulse.

"Don't die on me. You can't die on me."

I checked her pulse again and she had no pulse. I started to cry my heart out. She was my best friend, I lost my best friend. I cried and cried until I had no more tears left to cry.

I got up and started to leave, I was going to go back to the academy. Lissa was gone. She was the one I wanted to guard and now it is gone. Just gone, my chances are gone.

Then I heard an angelic voice say, "Are you just going to leave or are you going to help me up?"

I looked back and saw my best friend there with her eyes wide open looking at me. I ran to her and helped her up.

"How are you alive? You were dead."

"Some things just don't stay dead. Just like us. There is a bond. I brought you back and you brought me back to the living."

I gave her a huge hug and we walked back to the apartment.
