You live as a citizen in Mount Rageous. Your life was great for the most part. The only issue you had was trying to find a job. But it changed when your job application was accepted to work backstage as Velvet and Veneer's assistant.
However, that meant everything changed for you. Since you had to be there working for them literally 24/7, you had to live with them. You got your own room, which was a good thing. And you worked along with Crimp.
Most of your work was getting them ready for performances, setting up appointments for interviews, etc. It was almost like being a butler. But you never complained, not in front of them at least.
The first day was more than likely the most difficult day of your job since you had to get used to everything. You try not to get on Velvet and Veneer's bad side, and most of the time it's successful. You just stay out of their way until you are needed, no questions asked. It was that simple for you.
