Chapter 14: Reveries

"Hoy, Kaizer! Kanina pa kita kinakausap! Baka naman gusto mong sumagot."

"Huh?" Doon lang napatingin si Kaizer sa kaibigan na si Mikko na masama ang tingin sa kanya.

Naroon siya VVIP lounge nilang magkakaibigan sa Radiance, siya lang mag-isa ang nandoon kanina at sa lalim ng iniisip niya ay hindi niya namalayan na naroon na si Mikko.

"Is something wrong? I've never seen you so absentminded." Naka kunot-noo na tanong nito.

"May iniisip lang ako. Anyways, what do you need?" Sagot niya sa kaibigan.

"Let me guess, is it Cassidy?" Tanong ni Mikko sa kanya.

"How did you know?"

Napailing si Mikko, as if to say that the answer is a no-brainer.

"I've known you since we were 7. There are only two things that can make you worry. It's Cassidy or Valderrama Group of Companies. Since VGC is doing great, I'm guessing it's Cassidy that you are worried about."

He sighed. "She told me something and I can't help but think about it."

Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Mikko, like he knows something that he doesn't.

"Anong sinabi niya? Umamin na ba siya?" Curious na tanong nito.

"Anong umamin na pinagsasabi mo? I told you to stop putting malice on my friendship with Sidd."

Mikko shrugged. "Then what did she say for you to get all worked up about it?"

Kinwento niya rito ang sinabi ni Cassidy na they won't be able to do things anymore once they're in a committed relationship, or married, or have their own family.

"I don't see anything wrong with what Sidd said. She's right. I don't do this love shit, but it's common knowledge that you stay away from other girls or boys once you're committed to someone. We're going 26, Kaizer. Sooner or later, Sidd or you will find someone, fall in love, and get married, unless you want to marry each other."

"Heck no! She's only my best friend. I can't lose her, Miks." Sagot niya kay Mikko.

He's not ready for commitment, he's still young and there are other things he still wants to do, and love is a feeling that fades away. What if the impossible happened that he did fall for Cassidy and it did not work out? That means he'll lose her forever, at hindi niya hahayaang mangyari yon.

"Then it's time you accept the fact that three or five years from now, you might attend her wedding or she might attend yours." Mikko said shrugging again.

He can't imagine Cassidy with someone else. He can't imagine her laughing at someone else's jokes.

"Yeah, you're right. Anyways, what were you saying earlier?" Sagot at sabay tanong niya kay Mikko.

Mikko's right, he needs to prepare himself for the inevitable. One day, he and Cassidy will have separate lives.

She deserves to be happy and he won't take that away from him, lalo na at alam niyang hindi niya kayang ibigay iyon sa matalik niyang kaibigan.

"Pakisabi kay Cassidy kukutusan ko siya pag nakita ko siya. Ang lala ng toyo sa utak nung secretary kong nirefer niya." Mikko complained, sulking.

"Who? Billie? She's a nice and kind and don't you know that she's our class valedictorian noong high school? I say ikaw ang malala ang toyo sa utak." Sabi niya sa kaibigan.

Sinamaan siya ng tingin ni Mikko. "I'm telling you the truth. I even saw her talking to herself at the elevator. Don't you think that's creepy?"

He laughed at Mikko's expression. "Looks like you found your match and we should drink to that."

Tumayo siya mula sa couch at lumapit sa bartender to get a glass of whiskey.

He still can't help but think about what Cassidy said. He needs to drink to forget about it, and who knows, baka pareho pala sila ni Cassidy na hindi magpapakasal at magkakaanak?

"Damn! I don't want to think about it."
