Five pairs of feet tiptoed down the halls of the lab. five spirits were lifted in the hope of freedom. The leader of these five though, was a bit unsure.
Wolf's palms sweated as she darted down the hall, silent as a shadow. The others however, were not quite as good at being quiet.
A hand lightly touched Wolf's shoulder, and she jumped. "It's just me." She turned to see Sky standing there. "We've seen no guards...lucky, I suppose."
That was true, but a worry wormed itself into her mind. What if we haven't see any guards...because they're lying in ambush?
They made their way through the corridors, looking for the way out. "I've got it!" Poppy exclaimed all of a sudden, breaking the heavy silence that surrounded the escapees. She was greeted by a chorus of shhhhhhhhhh's. "Got what?" Blaze asked, a few of the ball of light thingies (Fae. I'll call them Fae. Wolf decided) bouncing again her head. "How to find the exit!" Poppy crowed. "Find a computer. There has to be a map of this place somewhere in their no doubt endless piles of junk!" The group agreed to try her idea, after all we had no other ideas other than continuing to sneak around the complex.
For another ten minutes they snuck around, now checking every room they passed. Rooms filled with every kind of science, torture, and medical equipment you could think of. Some stuff none of them knew what was. But no computers.
And no guards.
Finally they reached a room full of cubicles. "Weird." Wolf said. Midnight shrugged, and started to search one. "Hey!" She yelled, and gestured to a desktop hidden in a box. "Sweet." Wolf said, and Midnight and Poppy high fived. "I'll check it out. I have a way with computers." Poppy announced as she cracked her knuckles. "Let's get cooking!"
Ten excruciatingly long minutes later, Poppy was still mucking through files on desktop. Wolf paced around the small cubicle, getting more and more jumpy with each step. "Are you done yet?" She asked. "Almost...here...top secret...K's eyes only...yada yada yada..." She scrolled through pages, then would rapidly type. "Here!" She pointed at a map of the whole complex. "Whoa." Blaze murmured, and Wolf whole heartedly agreed. The place was huge.
"I'm guessing we're somewhere in here. " Midnight pointed to a wing titled 'purebreed correction facility'. Poppy nodded, then pointed to a small room, filled with cubicles. "I'm guessing we're here, and here's the exit..." She pointed to the exit, then traced the route. "C'mon! I now know the rout by heart!" She grabbed Wolf's arm, dragging her away. The others fallowed laughing.
Only later did it occurs to her that something was not right.
