Chapter # 4 A Figure In The Bushes

CRASH! Viktor awakens, frightened by the loud noise. He gently shakes Ace, who is sleeping soundly on the couch next to him, to wake him. Ace's eyes flutter open and direct themselves to the demon he's lying next to. "Did you hear that?" Viktor asked. Ace grumpily rolls over, ignoring Viktor who springs up and runs to the source of the noise. He walks into the kitchen to see the window shattered and a boy is sitting in the pile of glass. "P-please d-don't h-hurt me!" the boy stutters out. The boy has small antlers and ears that stick out of the side of his head along with a short tail. Viktor's expression changes from anger to sympathy as he kneels at the deer boys' level "I'm not going to hurt you" Viktor says in a soft tone "If you come over here I can patch you up." The boy backs away "How can I trust you?" he questions "You're a demon!" Ace rounds the corner "Viktor what are you doing," he asks as he rubs his eyes sleepily "I'm trying to sleep why are you being so loud?" Ace looks down at the boy and immediately snaps out of his sleepy state. He motions for Viktor to move back right before kneeling in front of the boy. "You don't have to be scared," he says softly "Give me just a second and I'll patch you up, you can go ahead and sit in the dining room so you don't have to sit in the glass anymore." Ace grabs Viktor by the wrist, dragging him to the living room, and starts to rummage through his bag. "Hey, Vik?" "Hm?" "Can you stay in here for a little while?" "But I want to help" "Viktor he's scared of you, It will be helpful If you stay in here," Ace says as he pulls a med kit from his bag. "Okay..." he says in a sad tone. "I know you love kids," Ace chuckles "You can talk with him later, I promise okay?" Ace States reassuringly, earning a nod from Viktor. Ace walks to the dining room where the small boy sits comfortably on the fluffy chairs, having loosened up at the presence of an angel. Ace pulls one of the chairs up to the little buck "May I?" Ace asks, referring to the boy's wounds "Mhm." Ace noticed the boy was staring at the floor "What were you running from?" Ace questions, attempting to break the silence "Demons..." Ace continues cleaning the boy's wounds "Well Viktor is not evil," he begins "He's super sweet, and he loves kids." "He really isn't bad?" Ace nods. "Well if his name is Viktor, what's yours?" the boy asks curiously. "My name is Ace, what's yours?" "Andy" the deer boy plainly states. "That's such a cute name." Viktor compliments as he peeks around the corner. Ace giggles and rolls his eyes at Viktor's childlike curiosity. "Can he come in?" Ace asks Andy "Sure..." Andy replies still wary of Viktor. Viktor happily walks over and plops down on the floor in front of the other two. The three of them talk for a while as Ace finishes bandaging up Andy. Andy's stomach growls loudly "Hungry?" Ace chuckles "Yes..." Andy admits "But I don't eat meat." Ace nods as he turns to Viktor "I'm gonna take Andy to the forest to find some food, can you clean up the glass in the kitchen, please?" "Sure thing" Viktor answers. Ace grabs his bag and slips on his shoes as he walks to the door in the kitchen. "You two be careful" Viktor warns as the angel and the buck start to walk outside "We will" Ace reassures. After a few hours of walking in the woods, Andy and Ace found over a week's worth of food. "What a haul" Ace proudly States "Let's start heading back" "Yeah" Andy agrees. The two of them start on their way back but Andy stops abruptly and starts to quiver "T-there is s-s-someone I-in the b-bushes" he says with fear in his eyes. Ace drops everything he's holding, summons his scythe, and whispers "Stay close." Andy gets behind Ace and grips his shirt as a dark figure jumps out of the bushes and crawls up a nearby tree. Ace pulls the small boy in front of him and covers him with his wings all while keeping his eyes locked on the tree. The figure quickly lunges at Ace. Ace jumps back to avoid the figure. "You're an Angel again? Who did you kill?" she asks curiously. "Connie!?" Ace yells as he furrows his brows in anger.
