Alia

"Name?"
"Alia Santi." I replied slowly, tapping the tips of my fingers against the counter. The woman behind the counter looked down at me with the most annoyed-ass expression on her face, raising a brow.

"Alonzo De Luca?"
"Mhm." I gave her a quick nod, watching her tap on her keyboard, her long nails tapping against the keys. Kiki stood next to me, her arms cross and letting out a dramatic and sharp sigh as the woman took her sweet fucking time sorting out the application for our visit with Alonzo. The smack of her lips as she chewed her bubblegum surely pissed Kiki off, evident of the twisted expression on her face.

"Alia I think I'm gonna fucking lose it soon." Kiki whispered to me and I gave her a glare that pleaded her not to. Letting out a deep exhale, I looked over at the lady behind the counter, watching her as she called over the radio for an officer before letting out a sigh and fixating her gaze on the both of us.

"Aaron is waiting down the hall for you two. He'll be with you both in the room for safety reasons. Please be respectful of the inmate and try not to stir up any problems, ok?" She tilted her head and forced a smile at us, all the while chewing on her gum. Giving a shitty smile back, Kiki took my hand and led me down towards the hall before we came face to face with an officer.

"Ladies." Aaron smiled and looked down at us. "You two must be Alia and Kiki? Which one of you is going to do the interview?"

"I am." I smiled and gave a nod. "Alia Santi. I hope you don't mind if I record the interview, do you?"

Aaron took a while to think before giving a nod. "As long as Alonzo is completely fine with it, then it should be ok to record. Just letting you know that no phones are allowed though."

Kiki and I both gave an understanding nod before following Aaron. We went through the standard process of a visitation—placing our belongings in tubs before walking through a screen for a security check. Before long, Aaron led us towards what seemed to be an empty cafeteria within the prison walls and opened it up, waiting for us to walk in.

With a deep breath, I stepped inside, looking around. Empty. Completely empty except for the body of a man sitting down at a table in the middle of the room. He wore an orange shirt and had dark hair with grey strands, his hands handcuffed to the table as he looked down at the floor. I heard the door shut behind me, the keys jiggling as Aaron took a cautious step further and locked the cafeteria.

We were practically stuck with him.

Alonzo seemed to be in his own world of thoughts, as seen by the constant bouncing of his knee and the refusal to look at any of us in the eye.

"Don't be scared ladies." Aaron reassured. "He tends to get shy around people."

I gave a weary chuckle as I watched the officer walk towards Alonzo, whispering something in his ear that seemed to have caught his attention. The inmate's eyes shot up and looked over at the two of us as we approached him.

"Hey Alonzo, how are you doing? I'm Alia, and this here is Kiki." I gave him a smile, sitting down across from him and looked over at Kiki, noticing her taking out a notepad and the voice recording device, placing it in the middle of the table before turning it on.

"What's this?" Alonzo asked, nudging it slightly and I scooted closer, my arms cross on the table as I looked up at him.

"Voice recorder." I spoke. "You do consent to being recorded throughout this interview, right?"
