you healed the wounds of my heart -- jeongcheol
-- 🩹
when seungcheol attained the ripe age of eight, he started to feel more self aware about his surroundings. how his brother would never want to stay at home and play with him as he used to, the fights between seungcheol's parents that used to be hidden were on full display in their living room and the pitiful glares the neighbors would send his his way everytime he left the house. for seungcheol this wasn't something really out of the ordinary.
young seungcheol would spend too much time watching shows that talk about life's values for the budding youth of the generation (he didn't have cable tv) and mr jang would tell the children how it was okay for fights to happen in the family, saying it was a healthy way to communicate. seungcheol thought he was a pretty neat guy and did find some sense in his words but sometimes when the fighting could be heard a house away in the street, seungcheol turned his heels in the opposite direction and walked away.
he ended up sitting on the swings, not really doing what you're supposed to do on a swing (quite applauding for the eight year old) but he just wasn't in the mood to play today. mr. jang is right but did his parents have to communicate that much? it was a good thing seungcheol brought some snacks to eat, he knew it was going to take awhile.
while pondering on his approach of eating which snack first (as all intelligent eight year olds do) he heard a ruckus coming by the sand pit. a group on four boys were crowding another boy, apparently laughing at him, saying things which made the other boy look away and try to disagree with them.
seungcheol knew them.
they were boys from his class, and the guy they were bullying, was someone he had heard about a lot. his name was yoon jeonghan, he looked pretty enough to be considered a girl, he likes to steal banana milk from his friends and other popular kid stuff seungcheol can't remember. what he does remember is that these days, jeonghan's parents have been communicating a lot.
and he was getting picked on by the other kids cause of that.
'hey! what are you guys doing!' seungcheol had no clue what he was doing. he wasn't good at fighting nor blocking, how was he going to save this kid when he can't even whistle to call for help. but nonetheless he got their attention.
'oh seungcheol what do you want' asked one of the guys as they watched him meekly walk into the scene.
'w-what you guys are doing right now isn't very nice! just go back home and leave him be' said seungcheol just to get a few snickers from the rest. 'or what!' challenged one of the boys.
seungcheol wasn't a fighter, but he was a tattler.
'i'll tell your parents everything! jongseob, you don't eat the lunch your mother gives you and dump it in the garden everyday. hyeonseok, you were rejected by a girl yesterday, jaehan, you still wet your pants and say you spilled water on your pants and yuheon-'
'alright alright we'll leave jeez!' and the rowdy bunch quietly turned their backs and walked away. seungcheol turned towards jeonghan, waiting for hear his praises and gratitude when one of the boys who almost walked away, threw a juice can at seungcheol and ran away. and as seungcheol was about to run away them, he slipped on the sand and fell face first into the dirt.
'pfft'
'are you seriously laughing at me?!' said seungcheol as he looked over at jeonghan who tried to control his laughter. seungcheol sat in the middle of the sand pit, sporting a bloody knee and teary eyes as he looked over to his so called saved victim.
