A Night To Remember

Emilia's POV:-
I feel nervousness pool in my stomach at his words. I should have been prepared for a moment like this. It was only a matter of time before people remembered that viral video.

" I remember you claiming Louis had your scholarship revoked. Louis accused you of trying to get close to him. And you said I quote ' I am not interested in getting close to you. I would never want to be around someone who's so fake '. Then you called him a tyrant and all sorts of things. So what's the truth, Princess Emilia? "

Rick sneered as he uttered the word 'princess'.

" You even remember her exact words. You must have watched the video a thousand times. Is your life so boring Rick? Yes, we had our differences in high school. We were both immature and did stupid things. But now we are very much in love. Sorry to disappoint you."

Louis spoke with such confidence as if he had nothing to hide. If I didn't know any better I would have thought we were really in love. He was looking at me now with so much tenderness and admiration. Even desire. It made my heart race and a blush covered my cheeks.

Just then Louis's phone rang and he left the table to pick up the call. I thought this uncomfortable conversation was over but Rick wasn't about to let me off the hook.

" Neither your husband nor you have answered my question, Emilia. " He smirked in that same obnoxious way.

" Which question are you talking about?" I started sipping at the glass of water in front of me, trying to mask my nervousness.

" Did he get you kicked out of school or not?" He was like a dog with a bone.

" It was a misunderstanding. Louis didn't do anything of the sort."

After everything that Louis had done for me, the least I could do was stop his cousin from slandering him.

" So you insulted my poor cousin in front of everyone for nothing? His popularity had already taken a hit after that 'thing' about Lady Ariella, and that video of yours was the last nail in the coffin. If he hadn't killed so many enemy soldiers in the recent war he would have fast become the most unpopular royal. "

" I thought that honorable title belonged to you," I mimic his smirk.

" So you are a little feisty, aren't you? Why did you lose your scholarship in the first place if Louis didn't have to do anything with it?"

" My father passed away that year. My grades dropped as a result." I try to look for Louis but he seems to be busy with his phone call and hasn't returned.

" But why did you automatically assume Louis had something to do with it?" Rick pressed on.

For a second all I wanted was to leave the room but I didn't want to give him the impression that I had something to hide. Also as long as I was a part of this family I wouldn't be able to avoid him forever.

" I was an immature teenager at that time. I guess I wanted someone to blame. But I am now past that stage and Louis has been so understanding. We both have gotten over the past and I don't see what the point is in bringing it up again." I say sternly, hoping this would shut him up for good.

" So you lost your scholarship due to bad grades, something that was totally your fault by the way. And made Louis look like a mean bully in front of the world. If I didn't know Louis was heartless I would have thought he was madly in love with you. Come on Emilia, spill. You don't have a sex tape of his, do you?"

Rick's hazel eyes are gleaming maniacally as if he's enjoying his little game.

This is it. I am seriously going to strangle Rick right now.
