A part of dark-blue eyes observed the bustling New Orleans city below. Although one might consider the eyes beautiful to gaze into, they held darkness within that few would dare to rose. Yet, for those closest to the young man who owned the eyes, there was a softness he showed only to them.

Niklaus Mikelson sighed as he leaned over the balcony's edge, watching people laughing and talking, listening to the honking of cars, and loud jazz music that played freely.

'Humans,' Klaus thought. 'Such vulgar creatures yet are necessary for those of my kind to survive. They aren't like ants, nor bees, as those animals all have purposes that they fulfill. Humans... what are they good for besides food?'

A soft rustle behind him made Klaus freeze. He sniffed the air, the familiar scent of Italian silk and Winchester whiskey filling his nose.

"Evening, Elijah," Klaus said, not turning from the balcony.

Elijah emerged from the shadows and gave his brother a small nod. "Niklaus."

"I would say this is an unwelcome surprise," Klaus said. "But that would be lying."

For all their past, Klaus did love his older brother. Of course, there were times in which he would much rather dagger his brother after an argument, but in the end, Elijah was still family.

"I'm glad that you are happy to see me," Elijah responded, turning to face his brother. "Come with me, Brother."

Klaus didn't move. "No."

Elijah sighed. "Niklaus..."

"I'm not going anywhere until I find out who's conspiring against me."

Elijah arched an eyebrow. "Come again?"

"The letter that I received. Someone is plotting my downfall, and I swear to you, that they will not know pain until I..."

Elijah held up his hand. "I believe I know what you are talking about. No one is conspiring against you, Brother. At least, not like that."

Klaus slowly turned and looked at his brother. "What are you talking about?"

Elijah nodded with his head. "Come with me, and I'll show you."

Klaus hated to be told what to do. But, what he hated more, was giving his enemies a banner to rally behind. So, he pushed away from the balcony and turned to follow his brother.

The two immortals traveled to the cemetery, Elijah easily crossing over the barrier with Klaus right behind him.

"What are we doing here?" Klaus asked.

"Patience brother," Elijah replied. "Patience."

The two rounded a corner, only for Elijah to stop. He knelt, finding the body of an unconscience Witch. Elijah recognized the man, as he was one of the men who were supposed to watch over Bonnie when he was last here.

"Oh no..." he whispered.

" 'Oh no'?" Klaus repeated. "What the hell..."

"There you are!" a familiar voice called out.

Elijah stood up to see Sophie Devereaux hurrying over to them, her face pale with panic.
