Danny had taken the empty room that this Alez Presco had offered him. He moved everything in, arranging things how he wanted them. He had all the important stuff at Stark labs so that he wasn't worried about.
He showered before finding the kitchen. He was hungry. His fridge at his old apartment never had any food in the fridge, it was mostly out of habit that he looked.
It was fully stocked. Danny felt excited. He was a fairly good cook after years of avoiding his parents sentient cooking.
He hummed to himself as he prepared dinner. He was so in the zone he didn't notice Alez had entered the room searching for the source of the smell until a voice over his shoulder asked, "what are you doing?"
He turned and smiled happy that he was finally able to cook in a nice kitchen.
"I'm making dinner, you can sit over there until it's ready"
Alez sat behind the counter watching as Danny cooked. The skinny kid seemed to be surprisingly well versed In a kitchen.
Danny had made chicken fettuccine. It was one of Danny's favorite things to make.
Danny brought a fork with food on it over to Alez.
"Try some, to make sure you'll like it"
Alez shrugged and bit the chicken, sliding it off the fork. It was well seasoned and juicy.
"It's good" Alez said. Well, that's what he said. He was thinking something along the lines of, "HOW IS HE SO GOOD AT COOKING WHEN HES SO SKINNY???"
Danny grinned innocently, happy that someone enjoyed his cooking. He passed a plate to Alez and sat across the counter from him.
"So do you have a job?" Danny asked.
Alez shook his head.
"Just the gang"
Danny nodded.
"What about you? Where do you work?"
Danny took a bite thinking carefully about how to respond to the question. He didn't want Alez to know his exact workplace or how big of a role he played. The last person who found out Danny was special kidnapped Stark.
"I work at a company in the tech department. Like tech support" Danny said.
It wasn't entirely untrue. He kind of was tech support in a way for superheroes.
Alez shook his head.
"I can't believe they didn't pay you more"
Danny thought about it, his pay should increase now that he worked for both the league and Stark. Would that count as overtime? Maybe he could find a way to squeeze out some pennies from Stark, indirectly of course.
"Yeah, I guess they should" Danny said before taking another bite.
They talked about small things the rest of the night.
"So you lived alone alone. Completely by yourself?" Alez asked.
"Yup, that pretty much summed it up. I don't think that really impacted me much. It was kind of nice for a while" Danny said stretching his arms.
Alez shook his head, this kid.
"You gotta take care of yourself now that your my friend alright kid"
Danny shot him a look.
"Kid?! You can't be that much older than me!" Danny protested.
Alez raised a brow and smirked.
"I'm nineteen" he said proudly.
