ICSY 15: The Archer

[Year 1815]

15 year old Kira Bolton was wandering around the woods under the moonlight. Her long red hair was tied messily as she was wearing a long-sleeved dress. She was holding her bow and quiver of arrows slinging on her shoulder as she wander into the gloomy woods. Kira always think that it was the only thing that helps her to be awake and tire herself.

Kira came from a strong lines of astral travelers. It is a practice of a mind wherein your physical body was put at rest and your soul gets to travel in the astral plane where both living and non exists. During those era, astral travellers were used to be spies. At first they were considered as threats. Along with the witches just because they also have ability to contact to the other world where living doesn't belong. But compared to witches, astral travelers are harmless. The danger was more to themselves as they were putting themselves in world of living and non.

That exactly why Kira's parents forbid her to use her ability. Except for the fact that she came from strong line of astral projectors, she's still not ready to face what's waiting for her at the astral realm. At the age of ten, Kira already had her first astral traveling and for the first time, her family think it was more of a danger to everyone than to the actual person who are doing the practice.

Kira was taught to block out anything that will remind her of this practice. Her parents will advise her to either get on physical world and if she's resting, they will make sure she's not alone. It was quite a challenge for Kira, to be honest. She's not the type of person who goes out which is not a challenge when you are a female living back then. But Kira's also not the type who just sits around. In Kira's case, she was encouraged to go around, a privilege they got for working under the powerful clan in their small city.

So now, Kira's wandering the forest but the longer she do it, the more tired she gets. She just wanted her day to end already. She wanted to go back to her house. While Kira's under her trance, she was interupted when she heard footsteps from behind. She instanty draw an arrow and ready to aim when a girl appeared and not a bear that she expected.

"Whoa!" the girl fell on her back as she looked at red hair with horror.

"God! Hannah! Do you really wish to die?!" Kira exclaimed. She put down her bow and arrow and walked t her best friend, Hannah. "You know I don't miss my targets." Kira scoffed, handing her hand to help her get up.

"Your parents told you to stay in the house. Why are you here, huh?" Hannah asked arching her brows as she rest her hands on her waist. The posture made Kira cracked.

"Great, I supposed you are right, mother." Kira said with a sarcastic smile.

"I'm serious, Kira. Let's go back now before they notice you left." the girl sternly said.

"Hannah Banes, I know you know that they are the ones who told me to keep in with physical world."

"Around people, Kira. Not forest where it's dark and dangerous." the girl looked around as she hugged herself.

The ginger just shrugged and looked around. "I mean what is the difference? Being around people is like being in the forest, Hannah. Oh, look, that is Emily." Kira joked pointing at a tree. "And that is Bernard and his family."

"Kira."

"Hannah, this is my haven." Kira sighed, tired of arguing with her best friend. "This is the closest thing I could go to using my ability. Being able to wander without anyone noticing me."

"Kira, no one cares if you go out-"

"Everyone cares. Hannah, people are talking about my family. About me... being a d-devil's child." Kira frowned. "I don't understand it. I have been asking mother about it but she will not tell me anything. I just know that it has to do with my ability. With the same ability I got from father. How come they praise my father for having the same ability as mine but disgusted by me? I- I don't understand."
