The two boys reluctantly sat back down as their elder had instructed. The Director smiled at their compliance.
Aiko grumbled something to himself, most likely over how Ash had been the one he was forced to partner up with. Yes, him. The thought alone made Aiko grit his teeth.
Once the boys were seated once more, The Director continued.
"So, as I'm sure you two should be aware, I need you two to take this new case that has come to my attention." As The Director spoke, he held an aura of calmness and wisdom, as expected of an elder with his reputation.
The two boys turned their gaze to their senior once more as he continued to speak. "There is an old ruin site where old weapons from days past are discarded when the weapons don't choose new masters after the passing of their original master."
It wasn't unheard of for this kind of practice to occur. Usually, weapons would choose a new master after the passing of their original one. The new master would usually be of later descent from its late master, whether that be a son, grandson, et cetera.
There were cases where the weapon wouldn't find any interest in its late master's descendants, and would thus, seal itself away, along with its spiritual powers.
The only way the weapon would unseal itself was if its master was reborn or if it finally sensed a worthy soul to take it. Whether that soul was a descendant of its master or a completely new, unrelated soul, depended on the weapon and its standards for a master.
After all, weapons had souls and consciousness. Some weapons were pickier than others when choosing a master. Some would only look for small attributes such as the wielder's heroic spirit, or perhaps even the opposite. Others may take a liking to the person simply because they fancied their looks.
It all depended on the weapon and what it wanted. If it wasn't what the weapon wanted, then it wouldn't budge. At that point, there wasn't much anyone could do. In cases such as this, these ancient ruins would come into play. The weapons would be stored in these ruins until it decided to awake once more.
"So you want us to investigate it?" Ash was quick and gave The Director barely any time to finish, instead interrupting him.
"If you'd be so kind as to let this one continue," The Director started, making Ash's facial hue change from white to red. It took a bit of willpower from Aiko not to laugh at him.
"Yes, of course, Director."
"As I was saying, this specific area of ruins seems to have had a weapon recently awaken and start causing mayhem in the neighboring town of Butterfly Peak," The Director's face seemed to darken as he continued, "It is extremely powerful, yet it hasn't left these ruins to find the person who awakened it, instead causing a ruckus to the mortals nearby."
The Director turned his gaze to Aiko, catching him off-guard. "It must've been awakened recently due to a disturbance or change in someone who was of great importance to its' spiritual energy flow."
Aiko stared back in confusion, "So you want us to find who awakened it? When even the weapon can't?"
The Director nodded before stocking his beard, "That is correct. It shouldn't be hard."
Ash interjected the easy-going statement once more and said, "How wouldn't that be hard? If even the weapon doesn't know where to go to search for its master, how would we? This so-called master could be anywhere if the weapon can't even trace the spiritual powers back to this person."
