"ARE YOU ALMOST READY DEAR?"

Says my grandmother as she watches me look into the mirror from my bedroom door. I was putting the final touches on my makeup, Which was putting on some coral colored lipstick on my lips.

I put the cap back on the lipstick tube. "Now I am," I say before standing up and turning to her. "How do I look?"

I chose to wear a simple yet elegant dress. The dress is a cream color with puffed sleeves, and a pearl necklace with matching bracelets on my wrist. I wore some heels that were the same color as my dress. My hair was up with some pieces of my hair out in the front, tied with a white ribbon.

My grandmother told me the night prior that the white ribbon would go good with my split dye hair. It did stand out against the blonde and black.

My grandmother simply smile before putting a hand to my cheek. "Beautiful as always."

I smile before I follow her down the stairs and into the kitchen. I eat a quick breakfast before I gather my stuff to head to the academy.

"I don't know how you can sit through that reaping ceremony." My grandmother starts to follow me to the door.

My grandmother was a strong woman, but she made it clear the hunger games made her sick to her stomach. I couldn't blame her at any means. The whole thing is cruel and twisted. Watching poor children fight to the death made me sadden, no kid should have to go through that.

"I don't know either, but everyone in my class is in high hopes of winning the plinth prize that is getting announced to the star student." I say. "And it's a requirement for my attendance."

"Oh I forgot they were doing that." She says. "I bet you're going to win no doubt about it."

I simply laugh and shake my head. "I'm thankful for the support, but everyone knows Coriolanus Snow will win." I say, as I slip my bag onto my shoulder.

"If you must be on your way.." My grandmother says as she walks to the drawers in the kitchen, grabbing something the closing it. "Let me give you this, I've been wanting to."

She turns and walks back to me, hiding the object between her hands. It filled me with curiosity over what the item could possibly be.

She opened her hands to reveal a brooch. The small piece of jewelry had gold all around with a ruby in the center. I immediately remember the item.

"Its mother's brooch.." I say before grabbing the brooch and in my hands.

"Thought you should have it." My grandmother says. "It might even bring you luck today."
