Cato's appearance completely shocks me. The healthy boy I saw a few days ago has lost at least ten kilos ( twenty-two pounds ) and his hands are shaking. It's the first time I've seen Cato so emaciated, I wouldn't even guess he's from District 2. Still, he's been made up and dressed well. But there is a severely damaged man behind the make-up that can't hide the bags under his eyes and the nice clothes.

My heart breaks just looking at him. But how could he get worse so quickly? Cato's last interview was no more than a week ago. What the hell had they done to him to bring him to this state in such a short time?

"Oh, Cato..." I whisper to myself. I feel my eyes fill with tears, but still I don't tear them away from the screen.

"Are you aware of her taping propos for the Districts?" Caesar asks him.

"They're using her, obviously," He answers. "They do it because they know she can whip up the rebels. Melanie hardly even knows what this war is about."

Hearing his voice tears start to roll down my cheeks. Even his voice is different. I can't think of what they had to do to him to make him that way.

"Is there anything you'd like to tell her?" Caesar asks.

"There is," Cato says. "I wish I could give this rose to you, Melanie." The screen shows a white rose in his hand.

"That's too kind of a gesture for a girl who helps the rebels," Caeser mentions. "Do you think she might be being forced to say these things?" This question catches Cato's attention, and he seems to understand the irony of it himself.

"Yes, I think that's exactly what's going on, and I'm worried about her, Caesar," He replies somewhat forcedly. "I hope she's watching me right now because I want to tell her something."

"He's shaking," I say worried and Finnick puts both hands on my shoulders to calm me down.

"And what is it?" The purple-haired man asks.

"I want you to start thinking for yourself, Melanie. Don't let them use you. I know that what you did in the Games was not because you wanted to get here. If you have that much influence over the rebels, then make them stop everything. Please, Melanie."

He is already begging and I can feel the sadness in his tone. Cato looks first at Caesar, who nods approvingly, then moves his gaze to the camera.

"Please, Mel. If you really love me, you will stop the war," He says and then a black screen appears, followed by the seal of Panem.

The show is over.

I can't believe they are making him use my love for him against me. I know Cato doesn't want that. He purposely said "Mel" because I know very well that he never calls me that way. He's still in his right mind, even if his appearance doesn't show it. It was his way of telling me that some real part of Cato is still left.
