~•~•~•~Well, I'm officially dead now. I'm dead to everyone except the people I'm here with now. Layla. The only person I'm worried about right now is how she's going to take this news. But on the other hand, it would be easier for us to get to Snow, as long as we stay hidden from the cameras.
Cato looks at me with an upset look as if he knows what I'm thinking. He can read me without me telling him anything, even when we are not on good terms. It's ironic how I thought Cato would never be able to comprehend feelings, but now he seems to understand them better than I do.
And that only leads me to think that I should fix my relationship with Cato. Because after everything, he will always be the reason for me to keep going.
"Not a thinker, not a leader," Snow continues his speech about me. "Simply a face plucked from the masses. Was she valuable? She was extremely valuable to your rebellion because you have no vision, no true leader among you. You call yourselves an alliance. But we saw what that means. Your soldiers are at each other's throats."
And just before Snow can continue with his lovely words about me, his connection breaks and Coin appears on the screen in his place. She introduces herself to the people of Panem as the leader of the rebellion and proceeds to give a eulogy in my honor.
"I had the privilege of knowing a small-town girl from the seam in District 12 who survived the hunger games and the quarter quell and rose up and turned a nation of slaves into an army! Dead or alive, Melanie Clark will remain the face of this revolution. She will not have died for nothing," Coin says and it's very emotional for her.
"I had no idea I meant so much to her," I whisper to Finnick and he laughs.
"Her vision and ours will be realized. A free Panem with self-determination for all. And in her memory, we will all find the strength to rid Panem of its oppressors. Thank you. And be safe." With that, Coin ends her speech, and right after that, a picture of me appears on the screen.
We must act quickly. Everyone thinks we're dead, and Snow's at the mansion. Now is our chance to attack before they dig up the ashes to find our bodies gone.
"Snow's in his mansion. Where is that?" I ask the group and then Cressida shows me on the map.
"We are at least seventy-five blocks north from the city circle," She tells us.
"Nobody knows we're alive. This is our chance," I say.
"Yeah, but whether they are looking for us or not, we are pinned down. There are pods every ten steps, we can't go out into the streets or onto the rooftops," Jackson says and I roll my eyes because I know she's right. Then Pollux points down to the map and Homes understands what he's trying to tell us.
