Wilbur was still distraught over the loss of Charlotte. Her eggs hatched and all but three of the spiders left. Homer Zuckerman noticed his prized pigs sadness and pet him. He looked over at his farm hand Lurvy, "You know Lurvy, I'm thinking of getting a mate for Wilbur. He's a fine hog in his own right, why not pass on his bloodline."

"Breed Wilbur?" Lurvy inquired curiously. He wondered how the pig would react to a female in his pen. "John has a nice sow ready to breed at his farm. I think Wilbur would make a fine father." Homer said. "You think he'd sell her to you?" Lurvy asked. "I'm sure he would. I've noticed that pig of mine seems lonely for some reason. I bet he'd feel better with a nice lady pig around."

Lurvy chuckled, "I bet he would, sir." He poured a tasty bucket of slops for Wilbur and pet his head, then continued onto the rest of his chores. He lightly smiled to himself about little piglets in the barn.

Wilbur had heard the men talking and walked to the side of his pen to talk to the female goose, "I know what mating means, but I'm just a little nervous. I've seen animals be born and sold throughout my time here so far. I never thought I'd contribute. What if the female they pair me with doesn't like me?" "Wilbur-ilbur-ilbur, you're a good pig and the farmer-armer-armer just wants to pass on your bloodline. I'm sure the female they choose will be perfect for you." The female goose said.

Wilbur sighed but nodded, "I just hope she will like me. I should tidy up my pen a bit and try to make it comfortable for her. Maybe I'll save some slops for her too, she'll probably be hungry when they decide to bring her over." And with that, Wilbur began to make a nice warm nest of the hay for his new penmate. He wondered what she would look like and hoped she would come to like the farm.
