It had been 3 months since the harrowing rescue of Katie and Wilbur. The female pigs belly was full term and she was expecting to give birth very soon. She woke up that morning and got up with a bit of difficulty, moving some hay around with her snout to make a nest for her piglets. Wilbur helped her with the nest and softly smiled, he looked at her belly. Now that she was so close to giving birth, he was nervous. He sometimes heard that not all babies made it and this saddened him. Katie saw the look on his face and licked his cheek, "Honey, please don't think negatively. Homer, Edith and Lurvy will all be helping with our piglets."
He sighed, "I know, but I can't help it. This is our first litter together and I want to make sure all our piglets make it. It would kill me to see a single one of them die." Katie could understand his worries, but she tried to comfort him as much as she could. She winced a bit from a hard kick and sat on her haunches, taking a few breaths. "Honey? Are you alright? Is it time?" Wilbur asked in worry. She panted a little, "I'm alright love. Just a strong kick." She then heard Lurvy come with their slops, it was important they keep their strength up, especially Katie.
"Got that full belly, huh big mama?" Lurvy gently rubbed her swelled belly. This made her snort happy as it felt good for her belly to be rubbed. Homer chuckled as he came over, "With her belly looking so swollen, I'd say tonight's the night. I can feel it in my gut." Lurvy smiled, "Well that gut of yours has never been wrong yet, sir. I wonder how many piglets she'll have." "My guess is she'll have a full litter of at least a dozen." Edith aka Mrs. Zuckerman said, "It's good Wilbur is so protective of her, especially with the little ones on the way."
It was getting to be night time and a heavy fall storm had come. Katie was snuggling with Wilbur when she winced from a barrage of kicks in her belly, "I think Homer is right. Tonight is the night our little ones come. They've been kicking my insides like a ball." Wilbur licked her cheek, "I'm sorry you have to endure all this pain, love. But it will be well worth it when the babies come." She softly smiled, then her eyes widened, feeling her water break, "Oh dear." She laid on her side as Wilbur began to squeal for help.
Homer heard Wilbur squealing and rushed to their pen. He gasped when he saw Katie in labor. He quickly ran to get everything that was needed for the birth. Lurvy and Edith also saw and came to help. It was finally time for the piglets to be born. "Easy big girl, easy." Homer gently rubbed Katie's head. Lurvy knew to get Wilbur into the next pen. Wilbur squealed and struggled, he wanted to be with his mate through the labor. "It's alright, honey. They'll let you back in afterwards." Katie licked his snout. He nuzzled her but willingly followed Lurvy into the next pen.
---Timeskip after the birth of the piglets---
Katie was exhausted but smiled tiredly and motherly licked her piglets as they nursed from her. She had 7 boys and 7 girls, each of them more adorable than the last. Homer chuckled and pet her, "That's my good pig." Katie snorted happily. Lurvy softly smiled and let Wilbur into the pen to see his piglets and mate. Katie softly smiled when Wilbur nuzzled her, "Come meet our babies, darling." She said in a soft tone. He sniffed his piglets and smiled tearfully, gently licking them, "They're so beautiful, honey."
Katie softly smiled and had so much love for her precious babies. She adored them all. Homer softly smiled then saw the runt of the litter. A female. However, Katie fortunately had enough spots for all her cherished children. "Darling, do you really think their runt will make it?" Edith asked her husband. "Well, Wilbur was born a runt and he grew strong and fat. If the runt needs a bit of extra feeding, we'll let Fern bottle feed her. For now, she needs her mother's milk." Homer said. Katie grunted gratefully at him and just enjoyed time with her mate and piglets.
Wilbur smiled and lovingly nuzzled Katie, "You did so well, honey. They're perfect. Not that I doubted they would be." Katie softly smiled, "You were right. The pregnancy pain was well worth it. I'll be sore for a bit, but once I'm feeling strong enough, I'll walk them around a bit and teach them a few things on how to be a pig." Wilbur chuckled, "Good. But first you need your rest. I'll look after our little ones while you get your rest, my love." She smiled, "Rest sounds amazing right now." She slowly succumbed to a peaceful sleep.
John had heard the happy news and came with his family to see the newborn piglets. Fern smiled tearfully and hugged Wilbur's head, "Oh Wilbur, your and Katie's babies are so adorable." The father pig softly grunted and nuzzled her. John chuckled and gently pet Katie, "She did a fine job and birthed a good litter." Homer softly smiled, "That she did. I'm thinking of letting her keep at least the runt. The others I'll sell once they're weaned and old enough." Homer said.
Wilbur and Katie were both sad to hear Homer say that but understood if there were too many pigs, the barn would get too crowded. "Good. We don't need a herd of pigs overtaking the barn. The runt alone with Katie and Wilbur shouldn't be too bad. But eventually we'll need to breed the runt, too. To keep Wilbur's bloodline going strong." Edith said. Homer chuckled and nodded, "The pig that one the blue ribbon this year, I heard his owner bred him. Uncle I think the pig is called. I'll talk to his owner."
Katie and Wilbur were happy to have their piglets and would gladly teach them the ways of being a pig. But they wondered if they should ever tell them the dark side of being a pig. The part about being fattened up for slaughter. This scared Katie as she didn't want to put this fear into her piglets. Yet it was a fear every pig eventually had the knowledge of. "Honey, should we ever tell them about you-know-what?" Katie asked in worry. Wilbur sighed, "I don't feel like it's something we should hide from them. When they're old enough, we'll tell them." Katie sighed but nodded.
Elsewhere, the wolves in the woods grinned. They had heard the sow on Zuckerman's Farm had finally given birth. The alpha smirked, "Excellent. In the summer the little ones will be perfectly grown and fat. They'll be delicious when eaten fresh." The wolf pack craved for the time the piglets would all be grown. Wolves weren't the only ones interested in the newborn piglets. Nearly every farmer in the county had heard the famous pig now had piglets of his own. Katie and Wilbur would of course miss their piglets when it was time for them to be sold, but they would have their time with their precious children.
