It was getting time to settle down for the night. Wilbur and Katie had spent the whole afternoon just talking and getting to know each other. Katie giggled a bit at some of Wilbur's funny stories from when he was young, "So let me get this straight, you tried to make a pig web?" She giggled. Wilbur chuckled bashfully, "Not one of my best ideas, but I thought it would be fun to try. Charlotte, the friend I told you about, she laughed of course, but she didn't discourage me. I was about to be Christmas dinner, but she saved me." He smiled sadly. "Oh Wilbur, I'm so sorry. I can tell how much she meant to you." Katie nuzzled him to comfort him. Wilbur sighed and nuzzled back, appreciating the small show of affection.

Lurvy and Homer came to the pigpen with the last load of slops for the night. Homer chuckled, "Looks like they're both happy with each other." He pet Wilbur, "Glad we got her, aren't you, boy?" Wilbur grunted in agreement, he liked having Katie around. He appreciated her comfort since the loss of Charlotte was still fresh in his heart. Katie oinked happily as Lurvy pet her head, "You're such a soft pig." He smiled as he pet her.

"Alright you two. Eat your dinner then off to bed. And Wilbur, if you do mate her tonight, try to keep it quiet." Homer said, "We don't want the other animals to stay awake." Homer said. Wilbur blushed at the mention of mating, prompting Katie to snort in a fit of giggles. She was blushing as well. The two men chuckled and left the pigs alone. "S-Sorry about that, Kate. Zuckerman likes to tease." Wilbur said, shyly. Katie softly smiled and licked his cheek as a show of affection, "I wouldn't mind having piglets with you." Wilbur blushed more, "Wait, really? I-I'm not sure we're at that point just yet, I want to get to know you better. But I appreciate you being straightforward with me." Katie softly smiled, "You're too sweet for this world, Wilbur. We don't have to decide anything just yet." She gently licked his face to clean away some slop.

Wilbur chuckled as she licked his face clean, "K-Kate, that tickles." He snorted in laughter. Katie grinned mischievously, "Oh does it now?" She lightly tickled the side of his belly with her snout, next. Wilbur was laughing, rolling on the ground. "Would you two pipe down? Some of us are trying to sleep." The old sheep said. Katie stuck her tongue out at him, "Oh you're no fun, but alright I see your point. It is getting late." She yawned a bit. She helped herself to a little bit more of the slops, then waited for Wilbur to join her in the hay.

Wilbur chuckled and followed Katie, "I don't think anyone has spoken to him like that. You're not like most pigs, are you?" She smiled and proudly raised her head, "Nope, I'm in a class all my own. A girl can't be afraid to speak her mind when she feels inclined to." Wilbur smiled, "I can respect that." She smiled then noticed the nest of hay, "Aww, did you make a nest for us, Willy? That's so sweet." She nuzzled him. "W-Well yeah, I wanted your first night to be comfortable. And I don't think anyone's called me Willy before. But I like it." He smiled.

Katie smiled and laid with him in the warm, comfortable hay and manure. "Mmm, I could get used to a place like this." She smiled tiredly. Wilbur chuckled, "It's definitely a nice place. And don't worry, neither of us will be anyone's dinner. Zuckerman promised. Plus there's always Fern." Katie smiled, "Oh Fern is such a sweet girl. When John got me, she doted on me and darn near spoiled me." Wilbur smiled, "She raised me from when I was born. Her dad was about to kill me for being the runt, but she saved me." She gasped, "That's terrible, but I'm glad she saved you. I wouldn't have met you otherwise." She nuzzled him.

He smiled and nuzzled back, "Thanks Kate. Let's try to get some sleep. We have another day of eating and getting to know each other tomorrow. Maybe I could introduce you to the other animals. I'm sure they'll love you." She smiled, "Aww, thanks Willy. Goodnight." She softly yawned. He smiled and gently rested her head in his hooves, "Goodnight, Kate." She blushed but smiled and slowly fell asleep, feeling so content.

Katie woke up in the middle of the night, gasping. She had been owned by a mean farmer before John and Homer. She had a nightmare that that mean farmer had found her and took her away to be butchered. Wilbur woke up with a light yawn, "Kate? What's going on?" She sighed, "Nothing Wilbur. Just a bad dream." "You wanna talk about it?" He asked in concern. She laid back down beside him, "The farmer that owned me before John, he was an awful man. He would lock us up in cages that we could barely move around in. He'd feed us so much food we'd get fat and unable to move. We never even saw the daylight or roll around in mud or even sleep in hay." She sniffled.

Wilbur nuzzled her, "I'm so sorry, that sounds terrible. I know it can't be easy to move on from memories like that, but you're safe here. With me and our owners. You're going to live a long life and we'll eventually have lots of beautiful piglets together. You're safe, Kate. I promise." He licked her cheek to comfort her. She sniffled but softly smiled, "Thank you, Wilbur. I really needed that comfort." She laid her head on his back and nuzzled into him. "And you're right. I feel so much safer here with you." Wilbur smiled, "Good. Let's try to get back to sleep. Looks like we could both use a good sleep. I'll show you around the farm a bit tomorrow. There's this nice pond that has the best mud beside it." Kate giggled, "Sounds perfect. Goodnight dear." He blushed when she called him 'dear' but he smiled as he liked the sound of that. "Goodnight love." He smiled and the two slowly fell asleep.
