"Hey, wake up. I think we're almost there," Skylar is roused from her slumber against the cold, dark window of the SUV by a hand shaking her shoulder. Squinting one eye open, she notices Emily beside her, gathering up her things.
Sitting upright and stretching the kink out of her neck, Skylar asks, "How long was I out?? I didn't mean to fall asleep."
Emily shrugs, "Just the last hour or so. It's ok, the staff are all accustomed to grabbing sleep when we can." she says dryly with another shrug.
Skylar is grateful for Emily taking her under her wing, so to speak, on this venture. While not exactly best bud material, she is friendly and treats Skylar kindly, and is one of the few female staff to speak fluent English; the crew along for this project are from Jimin's production label in Seoul. The last two days had been a whirlwind for Skylar, and she knows she could not have managed nearly so well if not for Emilly's help.
Skylar had never gotten ready for a trip so quickly in her life. Those two days had been non-stop for her. A meeting with Mr Tyler regarding the assignment, (his expression of near shock and utter joy had been a sight to behold, and not one that Skylar is soon to forget), stacks of legal forms to sign, a quick goodbye with Lisa to give her the keys to Skylar's apartment to water her plants and feed her fish while she's gone, and of course packing of her personal belongings.
She had been picked up by an all-black SUV, brought to the hotel where all the staff were in a flurry of organized chaos, quickly introduced to Emily, and then herded into another SUV for a six-hour long drive to the remote villa they will be staying at for the next two weeks.
Jimin had been nowhere in sight, but he had been kind enough to send along a little note with Emily, written in neat handwriting, to give to Skylar that had simply read:
Thank you for not refusing
-J
Looking out the window, Skylar is unable to make out much in the darkness, but she can see a grouping of lights at the top of the hill the SUV train is now making its way to the top of. Scanning the surrounding countryside, she notices there are very few other lights to be seen. Private indeed.
Once the SUV train was all parked along the front of the villa, the chaos of sorting all the people, luggage and equipment began. Skylar feels like she's in the way, so all she can do is stand back and watch as what seems like chaos morphs into a very efficient routine in progress. In no time at all, staff are making their way in small groups to the various guest houses around the compound, all but forgetting Skylar, it seems, until the production manager says something to Emily, who then approaches and shows Skylar where to go.
"Wait, I'm not rooming with you?", Skylar says in a surprised voice, trying not to sound too needy. She had been trying very hard to keep her cool and seem professional, but this is all very new territory for her.
"I'm sorry, I don't choose the rooms....actually, everything has been planned for a while, so finding you a place was sort of last minute; I think you are stuck with the managers or something," Emily explains with a grimace of sympathy.
When Skylar gives her a puzzled look, she elaborates,
"Bunking with the managers means no fun or partying after hours like the rest of the crew. They are pretty strict with the curfew and rules".
"Oh," Skylar replies, hiding her relief. She wasn't sure she could manage to keep her head above water daily if she was partying with the staff every evening. "Well, I guess it can't be helped." After confirming again which guest house she has been assigned, she thanks Emily and starts the trek dragging her suitcase up the path to a larger one set somewhat apart from the cluster of smaller ones the staff are all heading to.
Making her way inside, Skylar notices there is a pile of suitcases and equipment in the living room, but no one else to be seen. She decides to find a room and make herself comfortable, knowing she will have an ungodly early start in the morning, following Jimin on his schedule she had been given a copy of.
Surprised to find only two bedrooms, Skylar chooses the smaller, eager to get herself settled and get a good night's sleep. Before unpacking her belongings, she takes a minute to send Lisa a text, only to find reception is not great. Sighing in frustration, she decides to review the schedule for tomorrow, and her notes on today's events. Absorbed in her work, she vaguely heard others in the house getting settled, and before long the hour had grown quite late. Grabbing her toiletry bag from her suitcase, Skylar opens the door to the adjoining ensuite to start her bedtime routine.
As she is setting her things onto the counter, Skylar realizes the bathroom is full of steam. Confused, she turns to take in her surroundings - and bumps smack into a bare, muscled, chest, droplets of water from the shower running down golden skin to land on a fluffy white towel wrapped haphazardly around strong hips. She lets out a squeak in surprise, dropping the bottle of moisturizer she was unpacking.
"Hey Roomie," Jimin says teasingly, "you couldn't wait your turn for the shower?? Wanna join me?" he finishes with that devilish smirk on his full lips.
