POV : Adrian

Adrian was pacing around his room. His ball was in three days and he was supposed to be downstairs greeting all the traveling nobles coming for it. He had no desire to do so and was contemplating sneaking out the window and going to Jamie's. He heard a knock on his door.
"Come in." He called. A younger lady poked her head in. She smiled sheepishly.
"I'm sorry, your highness. My name is Lady Christine. I was just concerned when I didn't see you downstairs. I know I had no right to be, but still, I couldn't help worrying." She blushed. He tried not to groan as he plastered on a fake smile.
"I apologize. I was just taking a break." She frowned.
"Are you alright, my Prince?" He nodded. She clearly wasn't having it, but it seemed she didn't know if it was appropriate.
"You know, I am a pretty good listener. If you ever need an ear to word vomit into, I am here." She smiled and he sighed.
"In all honestly, I have no desire to have this ball." Her frown deepened and she sat down on a chair. He followed suit. "I have this...person I like. They aren't of royal background. I know I can never be with them and it is eating me up inside. I thought after a date I would be satisfied, but it seemed to have the opposite effect." He laughed dryly and she smiled sadly.
"I am sorry, but I can't do anything about that." She chuckled to herself. "I do know a thing or two about missed chances though. I had a lover myself. I let him go. Then he found someone else when I realized what we had. The thing is, she was so much better than me. It eats me up all the time." She looked him in the eyes. "Don't let him go." He jolted in surprise.
"How did you know he was a guy?" She smiled knowingly.
"You would have said 'she'." She got up, bowed, and left." He smiled to himself. He knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he was going to find a way to have Jamie.

Sorry this is a shorter chapter. I have a migraine but still wanted to stay on schedule! I hope you enjoyed nonetheless!
