As we made our way downstairs, each of the other housemates asked me the same question. "Are you okay?" they all asked, with genuine concern in their eyes. I couldn't understand how they all knew about it, I tried to brush it off and put on a smile.
As I took my seat next to Raha for breakfast, I couldn't help but notice Salar walking towards our table. My thoughts immediately drifted to what Raha had said earlier. I was so deep in thought that I didn't even realize Salar had taken the seat next to me.
He greeted everyone at the table, but my mind was too occupied to respond. Raha nudged me, bringing me back to reality. I quickly shook my head, trying to snap out of it. "What are you doing, Ehmel?"
As I took a bite of my breakfast, I made a conscious effort to push Salar out of my mind. I engaged in conversations with my friends and laughed at their jokes, slowly forgetting about my earlier preoccupation. It wasn't easy, but I knew I had to do it for my own well-being.
As we were enjoying our favorite breakfast dishes, I suddenly heard a familiar voice that sent a rush of excitement through my body. "Look guys, look who's here!" the voice exclaimed. I quickly turned around and my eyes fell upon a tall and handsome guy. It was Sarim, my and Raha's best friend from college.
As soon as we saw him, Raha and I jumped from our seats and ran towards him, embracing him in a tight hug. We were overjoyed to see him after such a long time. Sarim was not only our best friend, but also Raha's cousin. We have known each other for years and shared a strong bond of friendship.
However, our excitement was short-lived as Salar, interrupted us with a sly remark, "What's so special that you both had to run away from breakfast?" He raised an eyebrow and looked at us. Sarim, with his charming smile, responded, "Chill cousin, aren't you happy to see me?"
Salar's face immediately lit up with a smile and he welcomed Sarim with open arms. After a brief exchange of friendly banter, Sarim joined us at the breakfast table. He greeted everyone with warmth and we all caught up on our lives.
Raha couldn't help but notice how late Sarim had arrived and asked him, "Where have you been, Sarim? Why did you come so late?" "I was so busy with work that I couldn't make it earlier. But how could I miss the special event of my life?" He said with a sweet smile.
As we were sitting and chatting, my gaze drifted towards Salar. He was looking at us with a serious expression, causing me to wonder what was on his mind. But before I could ask, Raha's mother interjected, "Oh, tomorrow is the haldi ceremony and I completely forgot to buy haldi. Now you guys have to go to the market and get it."
As soon as she said this, Raha chimed in, "And mama also wants gajrey for the haldi. Salar bhai, you and Sarim should go to the market with Ehmel and Hala and buy them. But make sure that two of you go to one side and the other two to the other side."
The mention of gajrey, the traditional flower garlands, instantly brought a smile to my face. I remembered how much I used to love wearing them during each wedding season. But the sudden task of going to the market with salar made me a little bit anxious.
