Today wasn't a good day for Dream.
Not only he got caught in a net but the net was full of needles. And to make it worse he just got brought by the waves towards a beach. Such traitors they were.
Had he done something wrong for them to bring him to such a dangerous place? A place usually full of selfish and stupid humans?
Well, maybe not so full today since he saw and heard none.
He tried to struggle out of the net but moving only made his pain spike up and the net get tighter.
He continued struggling and whispering at the pain until he noticed through the corner of his eyes that something was coming towards him.
He whistled at her a warning to stay away but winced in pain the moment he did.
The human lowered herself to the ground, slowly bringing her hands near him.
He glared at her as she touched the net and moved it. Just what was she aiming at?
Suddenly feeling the pain rise he snarled at her before lunging and biting her.
She didn't react to the pain but if you looked hard enough you could see her slightly shake.
"Sorry..."
Her beautiful voice made him pause, yes, he was still biting, her he but wasn't making the wound worse.
Who was she? How could she possess such a voice belonging to the sea herself? Why was she here? Why was she the only one here? Did he get in the territory of a powerful human? What was she doing?
Getting out of his train of thoughts he noticed that the pain lessened, making him take his jaw off the girl and check himself.
The net and needles were gone, the only thing that remained were the numerous small wounds.
Shifting his gaze toward the girl who was checking her wound too he got closer to her face, carefully examining her.
He continued looking her in the eyes even when they made eye-contact, making his ability more accurate and powerful.
He saw no bad intentions or feeling behind those eyes, only sincerity, anxiety, fear and an hint of worry.
But, most importantly, behind those eyes he could see the sea.
That had to be it, that had to be why the waves brought him here! They brought him here to meet their fellow sister's incarnation!
But if so, why was such a pure being so scared of him?
Was it possible that she couldn't remember being a child of the sea? Being part of it?
Maybe... was it that being too much on land had made her forget? Was that why waves who walked on land never came back?
The new theory made him pause, if he had to get her trust then he would have to be careful.
So, he tried to smile as way to assure her everything would be alright. That she would get back to her family and go back to be loved, sea knows what had humans done to her in her time on earth.
But, apparently, the smile came out wrong because he saw her tense up and take out something before throwing it near him.
Following with his gaze the object he noticed that they were similar to wound-wrappers, which were usually made of kelp, this were probably the human version of it.
He turned around to thank her but saw her run away, making him pout.
He followed her direction with his eyes until he saw her reach what seemed to be her home.
He made a mental note to remember the place before starting to use the bandages, wincing every now and then.
He pushed himself into the water, being greeted by the unusually calm waves and taking as a sign that his theory was true.
Waves were shy beings. They could only be angry, calm and curious, as their happiness could be mistaken as anger by humans. So, to show they were happy, they showed calm and relaxation.
They didn't talk much but when they did it was considered either a blessing or a warning.
And now, that he could almost feel them smile and hear them hum happily, he was sure that this was a blessing.
This time his wicked smile really meant to be wicked.
This was his territory and his territory was the one closest to hers. He could almost say that their territory were one alone, and so, she being his too.
Clownfishes are known to be very territorial creatures, after all, ya know?
