HIS NIQABI GIRL

Elham.

As we walked through the gigantic doors of the building, I felt Asaad's hand tighten around mine.

"Sister Elham!" I heard someone scream, before jumping on me. I struggled to catch my balance until I felt a firm grip on my waist.

"Careful El. Asma, do you have plans on getting my wife injured?" Asaad asked.
She simply smiled and proceeded to jump on him as well while I felt my cheeks heat up at his words.

"I'm so surprised to see you here. I've missed you" she said to Asaad and I noticed the faint smile that forced itself on his lips.

"Is dad around?" Asaad asked.

"No. He stepped out earlier this morning" Yas answered.

The waiting room was filled with paintings hung on the high walls that caused our voices to echo slightly as we spoke.

Two guards walked towards us and carried our luggage away.

"Come let's show you to the bedroom you'll be staying" Yas said to me.

"What do you mean the bedroom she'll be staying? She'll be with me in my room" Asaad stated.

"Please Asaad, you get to see her everyday. We need some girl time" Asma begged.

"I'm not even begging, she's coming with us" Yasmeen announced.

"She's my wife, and she'll be staying with me" Asaad countered in a dismissive tone.

"You sound like a 4 year old, come on. You'd literally get to still see her everyday when you go back to New York. We just wanna spend time and do some girl stuff" Yasmeen retorted.

"Shouldn't you all be grateful that I agreed for she and I to come here in the first place?" He argued.

They were clearly joking around but he somewhat seemed pretty serious about the matter.

Help, what do I do now?

"How about we let Elham decide?" Yas suggested.
All three heads turned in my direction while I stood awkwardly, staring at them.

What do I do now?

"Yes, maybe Elham should decide" Asaad agreed.

"Uh..." I trailed off.

What do I even want?

On one hand, I genuinely wanted spending more time with the girls. However, Asaad and I were starting to get along and I wanted to keep it that way.

"Uh... how about we split it. Three days with the girls and three days with Asaad?" I recommended.

They all slowly nodded.

"Great, case closed. She's spending the first three days with us" Yas said, pulling me along with her as I glanced at a disappointed looking Asaad.

It was soon evening and I had just prayed my Maghrib salaah. I managed to finish up with the landscape painting and John had come to pick it up.
The building had two wings. One was occupied by males and one by females. Another thing I admired was how every domestic worker had a comfortable bedroom. I could also walk around without my niqab as no male could barge into this part of the building without permission. As I wandered about, taking in and interpreting every painting I came across, I heard my phone buzz.
It was Ummi. We spoke for some minutes and she asked me to send her regards to Asaad before she hung up.
