Fourteen

Demetri and I are in the living room going over my study guides for my finals, Lizzie is taking a nap while dad is drinking beer and reading the paper. Bella and I are both grounded because we skipped out to Italy plus Bella went cliff diving without permission or letting anyone know but a piece of paper.

"So Demetri" dad asks "do you come from a large family or"

"Small" He confirmed, dad is hesitant because Demetri is twenty five or that's where he died while I'm eighteen.

"And your okay with my daughter being a single mother?" Dad asks "and trying to adopt another child?"

Demetri nods his head "I am, I find a woman even more beautiful when they care so much to adopt children who need families" I smile to Demetri before leaning in to kiss him.

Pulling away, I lie my head on his shoulder feeling safe with Demetri. The door closed and we see Bella come in "Four o clock on the dot" Dad sighs "that kid trying to brown nose me or something?"

"You know he has a name" Bella and Edward have finally made up after a long argument about me and Demetri being soulmates "and what? He's now too punctual for you?"

"You girls" dad looks at us "understand why your both being punished right?"

"Went to Italy without your permission" I say as Bella lists her reasons that we've been going over "refusing to get help for the depression I went through, isolating myself, going to Italy, I could keep going but I think you know that I know why I'm grounded"

"Yes" he nods his head "you girls did that, but I have other reasons for grounding you Bella. I want you to get some separation from...him. See your other friends"

"Dad" she sighs "there's nothing you can say that will change my mind"

"And I'm not getting rid of Demetri" shaking my head holding onto Demetri sitting on his lap.

He sighs "I'm picking up on that...so how about this. The both of you aren't grounded anymore if you use this freedom to see your friends. Since becoming a mom Evie you've not had time for your friends and Bella...see your friends. Like Jacob, he's going through a rough patch and his dad is worried about him"

"He'll be fine" waving my hand picking up Lizzie

Dad gives me a look "Jake was your friend, a close friend"

"He made his choice" standing up having Demetri follow "I'll see some of my other friends but I won't see Jacob" besides Demetri and I are moving in together, there was this elderly couple that had no relatives or anything and Demetri killed them so in a month we are moving into Seattle into the apartment. Going upstairs to our room, closing the door Demetri takes Lizzie as I lie down on my bed "was that harsh?"

Shaking his head no "I don't think so, besides once your a vampire this old life will be behind you. It may seems hard at first but trust me, it's for the best"

"Oh" I ask "when is the court hearing for Zola?" Zola is this little baby girl who came over from Africa who needed surgery because she had spina bifida. We are going to court because we and another couple are trying to adopt her, I met her and she's the most wonderful baby ever.

"It's in the afternoon" he says "at five"

"I hope we get Zola" shaking my head "I don't know why but she belongs with us Demetri"

"I know" pulling me close "Lizzie looks excited for a little sister right?"

"Yes!" She exclaims
