I couldn't sleep after what my mum said. Was I really that selfish? To her I was, but I knew the truth..
I pushed everyone away because I didn't want people to pity me. I didn't want to be a burden on anyone. Most of all, I didn't want to be someone's saddest memory.
Eventually I fell asleep and woke up to the nurse changing my drip
"Good morning, how are you feeling today? " she chirped
"Morning, I'm feeling great" I said
"That's good, Dr Davis will be with you at noon. Is there anything you need?" she asked
"No, thank you" I said and she walked out. Then a familiar figure entered the room. Jobe.
"What do you want" I said with a bored expression on my face
"You" he said with a serious expression
"Just leave" I said, still reeling from the shock of what he said
"You aren't getting rid of me that easily" he said and sat beside me
"Aren't you supposed to be at school" I questioned
"How can I go to school when my favourite person isn't there?" he smiled
"Oh, Bella isn't there? I said sarcastically
"Come on. You know I'm talking about you, dummy" he said playfully rolling his eyes
"No, I don't know that" I said
"Look Isie, I'm sorry. I've been a really shitty friend. I realise that now. I'm sorry that I wasn't there when you needed me the most. I've been going crazy without you for the past few months. I act like I'm not falling apart without you, but I can't do this anymore. I need my best friend back. I need my Isie back." he said, his voice was cracking at the end.
I didn't say anything, no words could come out of my mouth in that moment. After a long staring contest he finally said
"You don't have to forgive me. God knows that I wouldn't forgive me either. Just whatever you do, please don't leave me" and then he started crying.
I reached out my hand to comfort him.
"Stop crying, you look like a donkey", I said to lighten the mood and I guess it worked because he started laughing his head off.
"That's the Isie I know" he said while wiping his tears
We did some catching up before I had to go see Dr Davis. He told me that I collapsed because of dehydration caused by the treatment and that I needed to start take better care of myself.The treatment's job was just to prolong my life for some time so if I didn't work with it, it would work against me.
My mom came to see me later on
"How are you feeling?" she asked
"Good" I said
"Dr Davis said that you will be discharged tomorrow, are you excited?" she asked
"Yes" I said in my most deadpan voice
"Do you need anything" she said. I could tell that she wanted me to say something longer than one word but I was still mad at her.
"No" I said
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow then, goodnight honey" she smiled sadly
I didn't reply but instead turned away from her and closed my eyes.
Jobe Pov
I was really happy when I got home, Isie was finally talking to me!! That was a start, suddenly my phone rang and I knew instantly that it was Bella
"Where were you today" she yelled as soon as I picked up the phone.
"Hello to you too. I was with Isie" I said
"What were doing with her" she yelled once again
"None of your business" I said starting to get angry
"Choose, me or her" she said
"Her" I said then I hung up
