"We've all got both light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are."

Act 1 of the story immerses us into the dark and foreboding world of Tartarus, where we meet Aria, a 14-year-old girl with long, curly brown hair and a lean build, who has spent her entire life in the shadow of the underworld. The sound of footsteps coming towards her cell wakes her up, and she looks up to see Poseidon, the god of the sea, standing in front of her. His sea-green eyes and the trident he holds make his divine presence unmistakable to her. Aria's surprise and joy at being remembered on her birthday by a god are palpable as Poseidon gifts her with a beautiful necklace made of sea glass and a small trident charm. However, her happiness is short-lived when Poseidon reveals that she needs to leave Tartarus and come to Camp Half-Blood to train as a demigod. We see Aria's inner turmoil and fear as she grapples with the idea of leaving the only home she has ever known and learning to control her powers. The act ends with Poseidon carrying Aria out of Tartarus, past the border, towards Camp Half-Blood. Percy Jackson, Poseidon's son, joins them, and we get a glimpse of his tan, thin build, sea-green eyes, and unruly black hair. We see Poseidon's fatherly concern for Aria's well-being as he explains her backstory and the challenges that lie ahead for her. Percy's determination to help Aria is evident as he volunteers to assist her in any way he can.As they approach Camp Half-Blood, the curious and fearful stares of the other demigods are tangible, highlighting the stigma associated with being the daughter of Kronos. Poseidon and Percy take Aria to the Hermes cabin, where they tuck her in and leave her to rest. We see Percy's compassion for Aria as he notices her necklace and wonders about its significance. The act ends with Percy's resolve to help Aria on her journey to discovering her true potential and her place in the world of the gods.
