The whole living room was silent as we all listened to a man's raised voice. How dared anyone talk to a woman like that. Adelaide-Isadora looked gorgeous in that dress and he arrived here 2 seconds and started shaming her for it. She even said sorry for it. They made their way inside and he was walking in front of her by a whole step. It looked like they accidentally walked into the same room at the same time. The guy in front of her looked like a qualified jerk. His blond curly hair was perfectly done while he wore a pair of pantalon, a button up, a sweater over his button up and a pair of perfectly polished leather shoes. Teeth so bright they hurt my eyes.

"Afternoon everyone. I'm Christopher."

So that was her boyfriend? I looked at Adelaide-Isadora who was fidgeting with one of her rings. I looked to my side and Carmen looked at me. Her expression told me enough. She felt sorry for her. So did I. Now I was sure I could treat her better than he ever did.

"Darling get me some coffee will you."

"Sure."

She turned sharp on her heels and went to the kitchen as quick as she could. Carmen stood up and walked after her to the kitchen with her empty glass of wine. I knew exactly what she was gonna do. She would give Adelaide-Isadora a pep talk in hope to cheer her up. Tell her how beautiful her body is and that especially a men shouldn't tell her what she could or couldn't do.

The rest of the evening was tense. Adelaide-Isadora was tense as she sat next to Christopher. He didn't allow her to say a single word and answered most questions for her. How terribly rude. She sat next to him like a porcelain doll. Her posture to perfect that it must be uncomfortable. She looked like if you touched her she would break like if you dropped a porcelain plate. I absolutely despise man who treat woman like that. Like they're some kind of possession... an object. As if they own them like a store bought object. Like they belong to them and the woman should do as they wish. I suppose it's the way it goes in their house.

"Darling. I want some wine."

He shooed her away. She obeyed almost as if she was scared of what would happen if she didn't. The moment she turned that corner I knew she relaxed a little.

I stood up with the wineglasses of Carmen and me and smiled at Carmen.

"Another glass?"

"Yes thank you."

I walked to the kitchen where Adelaide-Isadora her posture immediately tensed by the sound of footsteps. Her breath stuck in her throat as she swallowed hard.

"Relax it's just me."

Her whole body relaxed as she softly trembled. She spilled some of the wine and when she wanted to place the bottle on the counter behind her it slipped from her grip and it shattered into pieces right between our feet. She took in a panicky breath as she immediately squatted down and started picking up the glass pieces that once formed a bottle. She softly muttered 'shit' under her breath in a rapid tempo.

"Hey hey hey... calm down Adelaide-Isadora."

"No no no! He can't see that it's a mess!"

"I don't think your father cares that you accidentally dropped the bottle."

"No... Chris! If he sees this... oh my god..."

"Darling? What was that sound?"

Speaking of the devil. He walked into the kitchen as I grabbed paper towels to clean the remaining liquid of the wine.

"Is that... is that my expensive wine bottle?!"

"Yes... I'm really sorry! It was accident!"

"How can that be an accident! You know this was my reserved label of Pino Grigio!"

"I know I'm really sorry! I will clean it up!"

"That won't bring me my glass of wine will it?!"

"Yes yes.... Uhm... I will get that first!"

She dropped the pieces of glass from her hand back to the floor. I immediately saw blood run from her hand. She must have cut herself. She rushed to the fridge and opened a new bottle of another label for Chris. She poured it into a new glass and handed it to him.

"George don't worry. She's got the cleaning."

I gave him a nod as he walked away. When he disappeared into the living room the first thing I did was grabbing her wrist. I pulled her to the sink and pushed the water on to let the water clean the blood of her hands.

"I don't understand why you are with that jerk."

"He's not always bad..."

"I don't believe a word of that."

I carefully picked up all the glass pieces. I threw them in the trash can and then cleaned the floor. When I looked at her hand she was drying it with a few paper towels. The cuts already stopped bleeding. I looked at her face. It was full of worry. It wouldn't surprise me if she was getting beaten up at home. Chris seems to be that kind of person. She swallowed and looked into my eyes. Her eyes wide almost of fear. Her breath started to be a little shaky and her eyes were watering a little bit. She swallowed as she looked around the kitchen. Her breaths started to be get more and more shaky. They shortened and her breathing pace got higher. She almost bolted out of the kitchen and I heard the front door close. Carmen came into the kitchen. She looked concerned.

"I think she's having some sort of panic attack... would you go check on her? I think Chris would freak out if I went after her."

Carmen frowned and immediately knew what type of relationship I was targeting on. She gave me a nod and quickly walked after Adelaide-Isadora. I walked back to the living room.
