Once every five years, the largest assassin organizations within Asia would meet to discuss important matters on a more civil term - aka no killing. The summit compiled the world's greatest killers into a single room, champagne included.
I, Suki Yoon, proudly stood besides Grandfather at the ripe age of eight. No champagne of course.
Each organization was allowed to bring one heir and right-hand man. Because my twin, Sujin, prefers to keep to herself and work from the wings, I'm always dragged to these events.
I don't mind though. I enjoy showing face and silently judging everyone. Speaking of judging, the al Ghul's just walked in. I looked for a nod of approval by Grandfather to introduce myself.
Soon-ha, our best assassin, follows. I place my right arm over my chest and slightly bow. When I rise back up, my eyes meet with a young boy.
"Hello. My name is Suki Yoon, heir to Yoonhwa of South Korea," I proudly gleam.
Ra's al Ghul nods. "Suki. I have worked with your grandfather over the years. I expect the same with my grandson." He gestures to the boy.
The boy huffs before finally introducing himself. "Damian al Ghul, heir to the Demon Hea-"
BOOM! Suddenly, several parts of the ceiling and walls blow-up. Glass shards shoot everywhere. Scrams could be heard as men in all-black run in with katanas in hand. Unsuspecting guests are stabbed and shot at by them.
Talia instinctively covers us with her body as we all crouch near to the floor.
"Miss Suki!" Soon-ha yells. What the hell is going on? I look at Ra's face, he doesn't look like he knows either. Damn it.
I grab my sacred sword that was strapped to my thigh. I glance over to see Ra's, Talia, and Damian do the same. We all had the same thought in mind, tonight will change everything.
"AGHH!" a child screams. I gasp in horror.
They're trying to kill us. They're trying to eliminate the heirs. I feel Soon-ha tug on my arm as we take off to safety. Arrows fly across the room as the red carpet stains into darker shades.I recognize the red patch on the arms of the men with katanas. Kasumi's, Japan's most powerful fighters and our enemies. Soon enough, we're surrounded. With no choice but to fight, Soon-ha mutters to me, "stay close." Everyone in the room has drawn their hidden weapons by now. If it wasn't in a life-or-death situation, I would love to watch all the legendary fighters in a battle.
I slash the chest of one of the Kasumi's. I swing my sword, ready to go for the heart before he kicks me in the side. I yelp, holding my probably broken ribs. I peer over to my right to thankfully see Grandfather making his way to us.
"Grandfather! What is happening?" I yell in the midst of chaos as I manage to behead the assassin. I kick the bowling ball looking head away from me for good measure.
"Traitors have breeched the Summit. We must leave Su-" time seems to pause. I watch in horror as a blade penetrates his heart. I drop to my knees, checking for a pulse. Checking for something. I trust that Soon-ha has already killed the assassin. Nothing. Nothing!
"Grandfather..." I whisper in Korean. He's dead. How can he be dead? No. It can't be. Suddenly, I feel a hand on my shoulder. I look up with pathetic tears threatening to leave my eyes.
"Let us leave child," Talia said. She glances apologetically over my Grandfather's dead body.
"This is what he would want."I compliantly nod before leaving his side. Soon-ha kills off a couple more men after us as we jump out the window into a jet. He follows.
Talia, "how many dead so far?"
"Around 42 ma'am" says an agent. He pauses. "23 of them were children."
She clenched her fist in anger. "They will pay."
It was then when I realized that the boy was in the jet besides me. His clothes were worn, blood tainting his sleeves. "We will take revenge," he assures me. I didn't take him for a nice kid.
I'm tired. My head droops in defeat. "I hope so." I muttered. "Soon-ha..." I call out.
"I have informed the elders and your sister. Do not worry, I have sent someone to retrieve the body," he states in Korean. There's a hint of sadness in his voice that only I could pick out.
Talia speaks. "You can stay with us until reinforcements arrive, we owe that much."
I thank her before the consequences of the night reaches my eight year-old body. I give into the sleepiness as the world dims to a black.
I wake up to hearing Soon-ha talking with Talia al Ghul. Carpooling with the al Ghul's was definitely not how I thought this would go.
What is this thing I'm sleeping on? Wtf. I quickly sit-up after realizing I fell asleep on Damian's shoulder this entire time.
He wakes up from my sudden jolt. "You're heavier than you look."
The entire jet goes silent.
Soon-ha, "Miss, should I kill him," he says in Korean. Anger paints his voice.
"Soon-ha." I scold. "I don't think Yoonhwa can afford another death." He grunts before leaning back into his chair. We're probably almost at their place. The home to the League of Assassins. I've visited once before, with Grandfather.
I sigh. The past is the past. I have to be strong enough to move on. To lead. To protect. I cannot dwell on things that make me weak.
