The Unlikely Pair

Chapter 9:

Jack J's P.O.V.

Today we are practicing for our eighth grade graduation. I don't see a reason to practice, it's just one kid reading when the rest of us are sitting at our seats.

"I can't believe that we have a week left on the school," Jack said excitedly,"Aren't you excited?"

"Bro, we moving up a grade, that's it," I said doodling.

"What's wrong, man?" He said.

"I'm just tired," I said annoyed.

"Well I must be Snow White because Grumpy's in the house," he said jokingly.

"Jack, you ain't the fairest one of all," I said laughing.

"Touché," he said blushing.

He sat down at his seat because class was about to start. In English, our teacher was reading the short version of Romeo and Juliet and how they went against their families just to be together. I look over at Jack.

"Jack," I whispered.

He looked over, giving me a confused look.

"What?" He finally said.

"You know, we are kind of like Romeo and Juliet," I said smirking.

"How?" He said with one eyebrow raised,"We aren't against our families, and we are both boys."

"Yes, but we are pretty much against everyone else," I said.

The teacher exit the room for about ten minutes which meant all hell broke loose, not towards us, but the classroom was a mess. Everyone was running around throwing papers, looking through the teacher's desk, and pretty much seeking havoc. We decided to go to the bathroom and talk a little.

"Jack," he asks looking worried.

"Yeah, what's up?" I answered.

"Where do we stand?" He asked not looking at me.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

"Well, we like each other, but we didn't make it official," he said.

"I still think that we need to wait," I said.

"Why?" He said astonished.

I turned away, not wanting to see the disappointment on his face.

"I'm not ready yet," I said,"I need time, I'm sorry."

I felt a hand on my shoulder, it was Jack.

"It's okay, take all the time you need, I'll wait," he said smiling.

"Thanks Jack," I said hugging him.

Jack G's P.O.V.

We hugged for at least a minute and he pulled away when he though he heard giggling. So Jack peeked his head out.

"What do you see?" I whispered.

"I see Taylor and his friends recording what we were saying," he said worried.

He walks out, grabs Taylor by the shirt, and throws him to the ground.

"You just don't stop," Jack yelled attempting to punch him.

"Take one more step and I'll post this recording to all my social medias, you wouldn't want that Jack, now would you?" Taylor said.

Taylor look at Jack with his devilish eyes. Jack takes a step closer.

"What would everyone think?" He said,"What would your friend think?"

Jack was walking closer and closer to him.

"What would your parents think?" Taylor said.

Jack stopped dead in his tracks.

"What would your mother think, she expects so much from you, like being the straight A student, not getting into trouble, and the biggest thing she expects out of you is marrying a girl and have kids," he said circling around him like he is a shark circling his prey.

I see Jack's face getting red.

"She would be so disappointed in you if a certain someone showed her the video," he said putting quotes around a "certain someone."

"You're lying, you don't have her phone number," Jack said with confidence.

He read Jack's mom's phone number aloud. Jack's face went white and I can see his left hand shaking. I walk over, held his shaky hand, and try to calm him down.

"You think you can beat me," he said mocking us,"I know everything that happens in both of your lives."

"You're such a creep," I finally said.

"Shut up, Gaylord!" He said back,"Didn't you come out to your parents just a few days ago."

I drained from color and my heart beat a mile a minute.

"How the fuck did you know that?!" I said.

"I know everything," Taylor said walking out.

I felt so powerless. All I wanted to do was run home and cry.

"I think I'm gonna be sick," I said before bolting into a stall and throwing up.

While throwing up my guts, I was crying. I just wanted to die right now. I felt so exposed, I felt like knives were stabbing me in the heart. Jack was rubbing my back the whole time reassuring me. I finally stop and Jack wipes my mouth with toilet paper.

"Thanks," I said covering my mouth.

"Why are you covering your mouth?" He asks smiling.

"My breath stinks," I said laughing.

"Put your hand down, do you think I care?" He asked thinking I'm crazy.

"I don't know," I said.

"Come on, let's go to the nurse's office," He said taking my hand and helping me up.

It was almost lunch, so I hurried. So, nobody would see us. I kind of ran to the nurse's office, dragging Jack there.

"Jack, slow down!" He said.

I ignored him and frantically looked around to see if Taylor was still around.

"We're here," I said out of breath.

"Ah, Jack and Jack, back again I see," the nurse said,"What seems to be the problem?"

"Jack has been throwing up, and I just escorted him," I said quietly.

"Escorted me!" He said laughing,"More like I dragged me."

"Sorry," I said sheepishly.

"It's okay," I said.

I felt sick again so I bolted to the bathroom. Again spent about twenty minutes, throwing up. Jack was there again to rub my back, reassuring me. He then wipes my mouth and hugs me.

"Before you say anything about your breath," he said removing my hand going over my mouth.

He got up and walked over to the nurse. I peeked from the doorway, curious to what he was going to do.

"Do you by any chance have a mint?" He asked politely,"Jack is a little self-conscious about his breath."

"Sure deary," she said handing him a mint.

He walks back over and hand me the mint.

"There, satisfied," he said.

"Yes, thank you," I said hugging him.

I notice that nurse was watching us the whole time.

"You guys are still made for each other," the nurse said,"I remember when you were in kindergarten."

We looked at each other and smile.

"I swear you guys could be brothers because you care about each other so much," she said happily," You two make a pretty good team."

"I guess we do," we both said.
