Zane watched in horror as Zarya struggled desperately against her restraints, trying to get free. Tears streamed down her unfocused eyes, a familiar teal colour. Zane's heart gave a painful lurch as Zarya stumbled, her arm twisting. He couldn't take it anymore...
He walked towards the bound girl and crouched down. He closed his eyes and began to hum a tune. Slowly, Zarya began to calm down, breathing in a ragged sort of way. Zane opened his eyes and smiled comfortingly, still humming. Zarya stayed silent, listening to his humming gazing at him cautiously yet curiously.
The king stretched out an arm toward the shackle, key in hand. "When I release you, will you stay for a while?" He whispered. Zarya hesitated, torn. "I will let you go, I give you my word." He added. Zarya looked up and nodded. Zane smiled again and then there was a click.
Zarya snatched her arm away from the hanging chain, rubbing her wrist, looking at him with open curiosity. "Come with me." Said Zane, walking out of the cell. Zarya followed him, walking a little ways behind him. Zane turned. "Come on. In here." Zane gestured to the throne room. "We can talk on the balcony if you don't mind. I could do with some fresh air." He said, talking to her as if she was his friend, not some masked stranger who he had apprehended for sneaking into the palace. Zarya found the sudden change disconcerting. Nonetheless, she agreed and followed him to the balcony. Zane sat down on a lounge chair and beckoned her to sit next to him. Zarya glanced round, and sat down reluctantly.
"So, how is it in the future?" He asked casually, startling her. "How did you-" "Mysticons hadn't been chosen yet. I think I'd know if Mysticons were chosen as the Dragon Disk is in the royal treasury." He replied, smirking at her. "You remind me of someone." He said, changing the subject abruptly. Zarya looked at him, confused. "Who?" Zane shrugged. "I don't know, do I? How am I supposed to recognise someone who is wearing a mask?" Zarya raised an eyebrow. "I don't think you're supposed to know a masked person's identity." She said, smirking slightly. "Don't one wear a mask so others won't recognise them?" Zane was taken aback.
"They talk so alike." Em commented, watching Zarya interact with the king. "They look alike too." Said piper. Arkayna didn't reply. Instead she stood listening to them talk. His father's voice was deep yet it lilted just a little bit, pleasantly. "We have to figure out a way to get out of this timeline." Malvaron hissed.
"You're friends will be looking for you, I suppose."
"Yeah..."
"What are you going around through time for?"
"Can't tell you."
"Why not? I won't tell."
"I don't want to."
Zane sat, shocked at the answer he received before bursting out in laughter. "You got nerve, kid. I'll give you that." Zarya shrugged, her eyes darting toward the bush her friends were hiding behind. Zane chuckled again. "Some adventure you guys are having." He said and waved his hand. "Go ahead. I won't tell anyone." Zarya smiled as Zane stood up. "Goodbye,Ranger. I hope we meet again soon." He said and walked back in the throne room.
The Mysticons and Arkayna stood for a while before walking out of their hiding place. "No comments." Said Zarya quickly, averting their eyes.
"What are you-"
"I said, no comments!"
"Guys, please stop fighting. I need to concentrate and your childish bickering isn't helping." Said Malvaron. Zarya and Piper exchanged a glance but remained silent. With a bright orange flash of light, they disappeared into another timeline.
