Trigger warning: subject matter dealing with domestic abuse.

Grayson

Once we finished breakfast, Amber helped me clean up. I told her she didn't need to help me. But she refused to listen to me and still helped.

We finished, left the cabin, and climbed into the truck. I drove toward an open area and parked. We climbed out of the truck and stood in the vast open land.

"Well?" Amber asked.

I felt a tremble under my feet. "Give it a minute, Wild Filly."

Within a minute, the ground rumbled as wild horses galloped past us. Amber stared at them in amazement as she took steps toward them. As the horses ran, their manes and tails flew through the air. The harem's hooves hit the ground, making the ground vibrate.

I leaned on the truck and watched Amber enjoy the sight. Nothing was better than the current view. Then, something unique happened.

I stood in awe and watched the wild horses run past me. It was a sight to behold if I ever saw one. I stayed rooted in my spot, watching them until one stopped. I glanced at Grayson. He shrugged and shook his head.

The horse walked toward me, stopped, and lowered its head. I reached out and ran my hand over its head. It looked at me and blinked before blowing air from its nose. Then it nudged me.

I glanced at Grayson. "What's the horse doing?"

"It's bonding." Grayson drew his brows in together.

"Do wild horses do that often?"

Grayson shook its head. "They're feral creatures."

I removed my hand and walked toward Grayson. Grayson's brows lifted.

"What?"

"You have a follower." Grayson nodded past me.

I spun on my heels. The horse stepped back before stepping toward me and nudging me again.

"Uh, Gray, I think I have a problem."

"Wild Filly, I think you're right."

When I moved, the horse followed me. I ran around the truck. It trotted behind me.

"Gray!"

"Wild Filly, stop running, and don't yell."

"But the horse keeps following me."

Grayson tried to help me, but the horse wouldn't leave me alone. Finally, Grayson had to call his dad.

I've never seen a wild horse take to someone like this one did with Amber. It's never happened in my lifetime. Most feral horses avoid people. Not this one. It wouldn't leave Amber alone.

I called Pa to figure out what to do.

What do you mean a wild horse is chasing Amber?

"Just what I said."

Grayson, wild horses don't go near people. They're feral creatures.

"Well, this one did. It even let Amber stroke its head."

That's unusual.

"I'm finding nothing unusual with Amber's situation."

Are you sure it's a wild horse?

"It was running with the harem."

Doesn't mean anything. Have Amber stop so you can check the horse.
