SEJANUS WALKED EVANGELINE HOME that night. The girl had a hard time trying to figure out how to feel about the incident that had occurred at the zoo that day. She wasn't close to Arachne, and the girl usually taunted her any chance she got.
But she was a human being. And so was Brandy from district ten.
Sure, she thought Brandy was going to try and kill her in that van this morning, but she was just an angry girl who knew she was being sent to die. She couldn't really blame her for her behavior.
The thought of having someone around most of your life and then knowing you won't ever see them again is daunting, and Arachne had always been a presence Evie knew from her childhood. Not to mention she had never seen a dead body before, at least not in person. Now she had seen two in mere seconds.
Sejanus was kind enough to stay for a while when they made it to her home, and Evie's parents immediately began to console the two. Rose quickly brew some tea for everyone with hopes that it would help calm the nerves.
They recounted the events of the day over dinner and gradually the group felt better with some time to discuss the whole story.
Eventually Mr. and Mrs. Plinth sent the family car to pick up Sejanus and take him back home.
"We can't thank you enough for what you've done for our Evie." Adelaide Sweet exclaimed while pulling Sejanus into a warm embrace.
"It's absolutely no trouble at all." Sejanus smiled, returning the hug and leaving a small kiss on the older woman's cheek.
"Please, come back any time. You are more than welcome." William Sweet also pulled the boy into yet another hug, and Sejanus accepted all the praise with grace.
"Thank you for your hospitality."
"I'll walk you out." Evie called before slipping on her shoes and heading towards the door.
With the rest of her family waving goodbye from the doorway, the two best friend's made their way towards the apartment's elevator.
"They love you." She grinned at Sejanus.
"I love them too," he smiled back, "almost as much as I love you." He winked as the elevator doors opened, earning a laugh from the girl next to him.
Sejanus really was one of the best things in her life.
"Thank you for everything, Sejanus." Evie gave him a hug of her own once they had reached the front door.
"You would do the same for me." He responded.
"I'll return the favor one day. I don't know how or when, but I will." She smiled up at the curly haired boy.
He turned to walk out the front door of the apartment building but stopped last second.
