You couldn't live with your failure

Umbra had taken himself outside as he wanted to see the sun setting, Ruby was late back and that alone made him worried, while he had faith she would be able to handle herself should she be placed in danger, the old grimm couldn't help but worry, he stood outside and paced back and forth, he hoped nothing too bad had happened to Ruby, standing around doing nothing while one of his students was in danger made Umbra pissed beyond belief.

Standing around moping however wouldn't do anything, Umbra knew that truth more than anything, surely Ruby would return home and everything would go back to normal, lowering himself to his knees, umbra tried to calm his wrecked nerves, taking a deep breath and concentrating on other matters, he almost didn't hear the distinct sound of someone rapidly approaching...

his eyes shot open as he quickly reached for his sword, Umbra however lowered it when he saw a startled Ruby, the young girl let out a small yeep as she raised her hands in a defensive manner.

Ruby: AHHH! 

Umbra: Ruby, don't rush in out of nowhere! I could have seriously injured you or worse!

Ruby lowered her hands quickly and looked bashful.

Ruby: S-Sorry! I guess I just got excited...Something really cool happened!

Umbra crossed his arms and tilted his head, with Ruby, anything could be considered excited, seeing an animal to a interesting weapon, frankly it didn't bother Umbra, if Ruby was happy then that would be enough for him.

Umbra: I assume this must be very important if your this happy, surely something of interest?

Ruby: I...might have gotten into a fight with criminals...

Umbra: Excuse me? You "might" have gotten into a fight with criminals?

Ruby sighed slightly, she knew Umbra wouldn't be pleased with that info, yet she was surprised that he remained cool and collected, no doubt Summer and Tai would be livid!

Umbra: I have a feeling you haven't told me everything Ruby, I know your leaving something out and it's more important than you just fighting some two bit criminals...

Ruby: I...I MIGHT have also fought Roman torchwick when he tried to rob the dust store I was in...

Umbra's eyes narrowed slightly, while he hadn't the pleasure of meeting Vale's most infamous thief, he heard plenty from Summer, a master criminal and skilled thief that was behind all the dust robberies throughout the year, Umbra was more than aware he was a dangerous man, the fact Ruby had fought him made Umbra wary.

Umbra: So you fought Vale's most infamous thief, what happened next?

Ruby: I almost caught him! he got away with someone else! that's not all though...I met a huntress! an ACTUAL Huntress! she helped me!

Umbra: Oh? you met a huntress? 

Ruby: She was so cool! I've never seen a semblance like hers before! it's too bad Roman escaped...

Umbra: it is a shame, I however have no doubts Roman will face justice soon, people like him usually fall in the end, it's merely a matter of time before he trips up.

Ruby: I was also arrested...

Umbra's eyes shot open wide, how the hell did she get arrested!?

Ruby: After the fight, the huntress took me to the nearby police station, i-i wasn't in trouble! she even said I did a good job! it's just I really shouldn't have helped, in her words I "should have let the professionals take care of it".
