Sitting in Summer backyard while Qrow kept an eye on him, Umbra felt fantastic to say the least as he felt like he was actually in control, sitting on the ground, his mind wandered for a brief few seconds, did Summer still remember him and did she even care? Umbra however pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, there was no time for second guess's, the elder grimm knew he had to keep pushing forth and fight, he swore to the brother of light that he wouldn't allow Salem to destroy the world of Remnant.
Umbra watched as Qrow stood not far from him, the young man's gaze never left Umbra, the grimm could see how every time he moved, Qrow narrowed his eyes, clearly he was just waiting for a reason to kill him, Umbra however understood why, he used to be one of Salem's most prized warriors and part of her most trusted allies, the old grimm knew he had caused much heartache and pain throughout the century he served the grimm queen, he had destroyed many life's, taking teams of huntresses and huntsmen down, redemption would most likely be impossible and Umbra knew that...
The old grimm however wasn't going to roll over and give up, despite how appealing that option seemed, he made a promise to someone and wasn't going to break it, he had his own reasons for wanting Salem dead.
Even though his instincts and senses telling him to not go near Umbra, Qrow slowly made his way to the elder Grimm, now standing only a few feet apart, Qrow tried to start up a conversation with Umbra.
Qrow: Summer should be here soon big guy, she just went in the nearby town to do a few errands.
Umbra: That's good, It's been a while since I've seen here, the last time I saw her was when I was blasted away by Salem, I wonder how she's been...
Qrow: She's been doing well, still gets the shakes sometimes but she calms down quickly, being nearly killed messes with her a lot.
Umbra hummed in acknowledgment, he could understand that.
Qrow: I'm placing a lot of faith in you big guy, just know, you so much as move a muscle the wrong way, you won't get a chance to even regret your decision.
Umbra: I would NEVER harm Summer, It would go against everything I am, I may have been a grimm under Salem's orders but I have walked away from that life, hurting Summer wouldn't get me in Salem's good books either, not that I want to...
Qrow may have not shown it at the time, but he was starting to like Umbra, it may be a rocky start but slowly but surely he was beginning to like the elder grimm before him.
Umbra: I wonder what I'll say to her...Summer...what can I say after barging back into her life?
Qrow: I don't know, last time I checked you came to us, kinda think it's your problem.
Umbra: Wow...you're so helpful.
Qrow chuckled before sitting down beside Umbra.
Qrow: Look, I have no reason to trust you at all, literally no reason, your asking a lot from me, not to mention your other grimm buddies haven't exactly been laying around.
Umbra tightened his fists when he remembered Iris and Wolf, knowing they have been hard at work pissed him off to no end, no doubt he would have to fight them further down the road.
Umbra: It doesn't surprise me that Wolf and Iris have been hard at work, those two always wanted to outshine the other and gain Salem's favour, if killing would gain her grace, then the two of them would wipe out the world of Remnant.
Qrow: Then what about you? you served Salem for a long time, why are you so different compared to them?
Qrow watched as Umbra lowered his head in shame, Umbra was no fool as he had served as one of Salem's warriors for 100 years...
