A few nights later, Izuku was woken up by a tapping on his window. He looked at his clock. It was midnight, way too early for people to be disturbing other peoples' sleep. He tiptoed over to his window and almost got hit in the eye with a neon green star-shaped bead.
"Hey, ZZ!" It was Vivienne, whisper-yelling up his fire escape. "Wanna go for a walk?"
"Viv, it's midnight. I need sleep."
"You sure you don't wanna go?" It was Charlie's voice this time. "Andre found a particularly cool abandoned building and we thought of you."
Izuku groaned and rubbed his eyes. "Fine." He put on a pair of shoes and quietly sneaked down the fire escape. Well, as quietly as one could be on a rusty hundred-year-old fire escape. At the bottom, Andreas thrust a metal water bottle into his hands.
"Coffee. It should wake you up a bit."
"Thanks." He took a swig of the coffee. It thankfully had a good amount of milk and sugar in it, just how he liked it. "So, what building's so important that you had to wake me up at midnight?"
"You'll see," Athena grinned. Or at least, he heard the grin in her voice. It was hard to tell since she didn't have teeth.
The group walked into a particularly wooded area. Leaves crunched under their shoes as they walked. The only lights guiding them were a trail of stars courtesy of Edwin and Charlie's head, now a lantern. The night was punctuated by the sounds of the creatures of the night. Frogs from a nearby pond sang their songs. Crickets chirped incessantly, inquiring if anyone awake wanted more music. Finally, after quite a bit of walking, Charlie stopped in their tracks. Everyone else followed suit. In a clearing was a large warehouse, untouched by whoever owned it for some time.
"Look at this bad boy!" Charlie exclaimed quietly. "It's an old Wexler warehouse! Nobody's been here since the company went under back in 2020!"
"Uh... sorry for asking, but... what's Wexler?"
"Wexler was a pretty big hero costume and weapon manufacturer back in the 90s and 2000s," Athena explained. "One of my dad's old costumes was from Wexler. The company went bankrupt in 2020 without any explanation. To this day, people have theories as to why Wexler went under, but nobody knows for sure."
Izuku marveled at the warehouse as Charlie fiddled with the door. The entire building was massive. Judging by the size, it could've held a good-sized airplane or two. There was no way it could've just held costumes.
"Open sesame!" Charlie yelled to the group, his head now a slightly chipped crowbar. He swung the door open and turned to Athena. "After you, my fine feathered friend."
Athena nodded and entered the warehouse, followed by Edwin, Vivienne, Izuku, Andreas, and finally Charlie, door holder supreme. Edwin snapped his fingers and the entire warehouse was illuminated with artificial starlight. Dusty weapon prototypes and unworn costumes protected by Plexiglass were spread into rows like a grocery store.
"Hey, I've got a challenge for you, ZZ." Andreas smirked at Izuku. "Without looking at the labels, guess who these costumes were made for."
"Sounds like a deal, Andre." He searched around for a costume he recognized. Immediately, he ran to the center of the aisle and stopped in front of a gaudy pink and green jumpsuit. "This one was definitely made for the Freestyle Hero, Flashdance. The garish neon colors and leg warmers are a dead giveaway."
"That one was too easy." Andreas pointed at a deep blue catsuit with a repeating pattern of waves on it. "Try this one on for size."
"Hm. If I had to guess, I'd have to say..." Izuku pondered his answer while Andreas looked on expectedly. "...The Bay Hero! Marina!"
