Bellamy POV
The search for water had gone really well up until this point.
There was a huge waterfall going down the side of the mountain which provided a clear view of the valley below. There were some very large creatures grazing down there but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what the hell they were. We could hear them though.
The roaring sound reminded me of the sounds of a lion ...or maybe an elephant from one of the movies we saw on the ARK.
Or maybe....? As big as they appear...well it may be better not to know...
In addition to the waterfall we also found a cave. We went inside thinking this might be a good place to set up camp if the drop ship gets too crowded over time.
It was perfect, large with lots of tunnels leading into other cavernous rooms. The best part was the underground spring that ran through one of the caverns. We would have to have Monty and Harper test it to make sure the water was safe, but it looked promising. Now we just needed to figure out the animals in the area and start hunting.
As we were exiting the cave we made one last stop by the falls to fill our canteens in one of the small pools there when out of nowhere this thing, person? Lizard?
This green thing jumps out of nowhere and spits something in Atom's face!
"Agggghhhh!!! Bellamy..!!!!" He screams as I hear his skin start to sizzle.
I fire off a couple of shots and the strange creature runs off. I am pretty sure I hit it. One thing I did know. That thing wasn't human even if it did run on two legs!
When I am sure it's not coming back I kneel next to Atom. I stare at the blisters and burned flesh on his face.
God he looks really bad...
"Ki..ki...just ki...ll...me.
He is tries to speak and I know right then he probably won't make it. I pull out my knife as I finally understand what he is asking of me, my hands start to shake as I find myself unable to do it.
I can't kill him.
Not even to end his pain.As he continues to moan in agony I hear footsteps behind me. I stand quickly, knife at the ready.
It's the princess.
"I heard the screams" she says calmly.
I look at her, unable to say much. I swallow and she pushes past me to look at Atom. As she looks at him her face falls as she looks back at me and shakes her head indicating there is nothing she can do.
She sees the knife in my hand but when I make no move, she gently pries it from my fingers.
I watch her mezmorized.
She kneels down and brushes the hair from his forehead. As he closes his eyes she begins to sing a lullaby. It is one I remember singing to Octavia when she was a little girl.
Before I can lose myself too deep in my memories, she takes the knife and with one quick cut, it is done. He is free from his pain.
"May we meet again" she whispers softly, shoulders sagging. She cleans the knife on the grass and hands it back to me.
As we stand there the roar of a lion breaks the silence, I push the princess behind me quickly as a huge cat leaps off the side of the cliff towards us.
Two gunshots later and it is lying on the ground several feet in front of us.
At least we will have food. I think silently.
I feel a hand on my shoulder. "Nice shot" she says softly walking over to look at the animal.
"Bellamy?" She calls, "look at this."
I am by her side in a second. She is pointing at the dead animal. It is huge and if it would have gotton anywhere near us we would be dead.
But that's not what has her attention. She's pointing at the two long teeth that are protruding from its mouth.
"Is that a Saber tooth tiger?" She asks in a shocked voice.
Just then Miller and Finn come running up.
"You guys ok?" They asks breathlessly, guns drawn.
I nod not taking my eyes off Clarke.
"Yeah. Let's get this animal strung up and back to camp. We need to bury Atom too..." I trail off and Clarke slips her hand into mine and gives it a squeeze.
Clarke and I carry the tiger between us tied to a branch while Finn and Miller carry Atom.
We head back to camp silently as I think to myself that there is much more to the princess than meets the eye...
