Chapter 3 First Casualty

Bellamy POV

The minute we heard the scream I yelled, ordering everyone back to the ship. While I ran to see who was hurt.

Of course the princess didn't listen and followed me.

"Get back to the ship Princess!" I yell over my shoulder.

"No! Whoever that is may need my help!"

I didn't argue further afraid she may be right.

We were in the woods then and hadn't gone far when we heard another scream. As we broke through the brush we saw Atom kneeling next to Jasper looking scared. There was a spike sticking out of Jaspers stomach.

The princess immediately went to Jasper's side to assess the damage while I questioned Atom.

"We were just walking and Jasper moved that plant aside and these spikes came flying out! "

I turned and looked at the plant. It was huge, green with a red underside. As I looked around we could see a couple of dead animals nearby.

Suddenly I wanted to get back to the ship.

I stood behind the princess with my gun drawn. "How is he?"

"He passed out from the pain. We need to get him back. All of my supplies are at the ship."
I nodded. "We need a stretcher though" she added.

Atom and I got to work quickly, avoiding the area with the deadly plant. We soon had a makeshift stretcher built from branches so we could drag Jasper back to camp.

We walked in a small procession. Atom first, dragging Jasper with the princess following to make sure he wasn't jostled too much. I was at the rear, gun drawn looking out for trouble.

I'm not easily spooked but I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched...

Clarke POV

As we made our way back to the ship I was worried. Plants with that type of defense system hadn't existed for years. The most modern form was the tiny Venus Fly trap.

The fact that this plant was so huge snd deadly gave me cause for concern but until I spoke to...I think his name was Monty? Well I couldn't confirm my suspicions until then.

Luckily we weren't far from camp, it only took us five minutes of walking.

Right before we broke the tree line I could swear I heard running water, I mentioned it to Bellamy but he only huffed and pressed his lips in a thin line nodding towards camp.

I hated to admit it but he was right Jasper first. I made a mental note to explore it later.

Bellamy POV

It had been a couple of hours since we dragged Jasper back to camp. Dr. Princess had been able to stabilize Jasper and get the spike out. She was mildly worried about infection but she had given him a dose of antibiotics and a sedative and the only thing left for her to do was wait.

After speaking with Atom, Miller and Wells I went to talk to her.

She glanced at me wearily as she heard me walk over to her. "Atom and I are going to check out the possible water source you heard. Talk to Wells or Miller if you need anything ok?"

"I'm coming with you."

"No!"

"I don't take orders from you Bellamy!" She responds hotly.

"Listen up Dr. Princess!" I say in a deadly tone. "Do you know how to use one of these?" I ask her pointedly holding up my gun.

"No" she answers never losing her calm, "but I know how to use this" her eyes flick down and my eyes follow to see her holding a knife to my gut. I look back at her face to see her smirk at me.

"Well, Dr" I say raising an eyebrow at her, impressed and unable to hide my own smirk, "Right now he needs you more, so you are staying here" I say nodding towards Jasper before turning and walking out of the ship with Atom trailing after me.

When we get outside Miller hands both me and Atom a high powered rifle, having retrieved them by my order from the secret compartment on the second floor of the ship. "Thanks. Make sure everyone stays close to the ship."

"Be careful out there huh?"

"Yeah, don't let Octavia out of your sight, get Monty working on fixing the radio and Miller? "

"Yeah?"

"Get Clarke whatever she needs." The words come out of nowhere but as they leave my lips I know I mean them.

"Ok boss"

As Atom and I make our way towards the sound of the water I know I don't have to tell him to be careful.

Octavia POV

I hear Bellamy doling out orders to Miller. He thinks he can have him keep me locked up. Ha! Screw that! We are on earth now and I am never going to be locked up again!
I just have to hurry before Miller comes to check up on me...

Unknown POV

They are strange, these people.
They fell from the sky in a trail of fire.
They don't look like us.
They don't know there is danger here from the others.
I should follow them to see what they do. Wait what is that?

Why is the young female out alone? I think I should follow her. No one should be alone here...

Clarke POV

I look at the watch my father gave me, they have only been gone about a 1/2 an hour. I stand up and stretch while I walk outside for some air.

After growing up in space and smelling nothing but stale air this is like heaven. Just being able to breathe deeply and fill your lungs with all of the scents that the earth has.

So of course at that very moment I hear a scream, followed by a couple of gunshots.

Without hesitating I am off running towards the sound before anyone has a chance to stop me hoping I am not too late.
