Over the holidays, you and Newt had sent letters to each other constantly. When you weren't writing a letter, you were waiting for one to arrive in the mail. He had told you about how his mother breeds Hippogriffs, which is what led him into his fascination with mythical creatures. You both also discussed what three classes you were both choosing. Newt want to stay with you as much as possible. He said it was to make sure your wandless magic situation stayed in check. This slightly disappointed you, you were hoping he'd say something like: "I just love hanging out with you, marry me?" Maybe not the marry me part but, would it really be that bad? Anyways, you had both agreed on: Care of Magical Creatures, Divination and the last one was hard to decide on. So, you both decided it would be fine if you missed out on one class together. He chose Arithmancy and you chose, Ancient Runes.

You had found your previous booth on the train and you waited for Newt to arrive. When you saw him slide open the door, you noticed something. He looked taller, a little less chubby than he was the year before. You were both 12, his birthday wasn't until February so he wasn't quite 13.

"Hello." He said in a happy tone, though looking down at the ground as usual. "I'd ask how your holidays were but I know all about it." You chuckled.

"Yes, well it doesn't leave much to talk about..." You trailed off slightly. He was always awkward to talk too, though you didn't mind, he couldn't really help it. You found it quite cute actually. Most of the other boys were annoyed the girls, calling them names and trying to pull up their skirts. Newt on the other hand had some human decency and genuinely seemed to care about the things you talked about.

You both sat in a comfortable silence until the door swung open. It was Milliard Malfoy, Talily Quillen, Cecilia Morgan, Lester Browentoe and Leta Lestrange. The six of you had met last year. You'd consider them your friends though you only talked to them when they started a conversation or if Newt wasn't around.

"What are you doing hanging around him?" Milliard asked obnoxiously while the others laughed.

"Yeah, he's a freak, all he talks about are the creatures he's got a sick fetish for." Cecilia added with a cackle.

"I'll talk to you guys when we get too school." You told them. You could tell Leta was uncomfortable with what they were doing. She mouthed sorry as she walked away. Leta's always been sweet to you, she's even talked to Newt a couple times and they got along fine. "I'm sorry about them, they're just assholes, don't listen to them." You assured him.

"They laughed at me when I walked past on the way here too." He told you softly.

"If they give you any trouble while I'm not around, let me know and I'll talk to them." You said as you moved to kneel in front of him. You tried to catch a glimpse of his eyes, though he kept them down. "Newt? You don't have to talk to me if you don't want to, but at least give me a nod if your feeling okay." He nodded ever so slightly and you put a hand on his arm. He tense up and glanced to your hand. You weren't sure if he wanted you to keep it there or not, so you pulled your hand back and sat next to him.

"Thank you." He said softly and turned his head to you, though it was still hanging down his eyes glanced to your face quickly before turning to face out the window. The rest of the ride was silent but you both glanced at each other ever so often but you glances never met. Newt was thankful, he feared you'd think he was being weird.

You headed into the Great Hall for the feast and the welcoming ceremony for the first years. You didn't pay much attention. You had all your focus on the boy with the orangey brown hair. Not long after, the first years were taken to the dorms and everyone else was free to roam around as they would on the weekends. You met up with Newt as everyone exited and sat down in the front courtyard. You saw Millard's group approaching you, Leta wasn't there though. You stood up and rushed over to them before they could go near Newt.
