Poseidon arrived at the Fates home, confidently, darkly, with a wild storm brewing in his eyes, swirling and twirling with rage, with chaos, yet his face, his body showed nothing but control.
"Clotho!" he called out, like he was playing a game of hide and seek, "Lachesis, Atropos!" He whistled, calling out, "Come out, come out wherever you are!"
In the middle of their home were trees and a large fountain. The center piece of the fountain, so life-like to the three sisters. He would have thought Medusa had turned them to stone. Alas, it had been a gift to them from his younger brother, Zeus.
He walked around the fountain, eyes trailing, trying to locate his intended targets. Hands twitching to destroy the statue of the three. But he held himself together. Maybe I'll destroy that center piece later if they piss me off more than they already have.
"Why so dramatic grandson?" Poseidon heard the voice coming from behind him. He twirled around, trident in hand, ready to attack.
"How dare you!" Poseidon seethed at seeing his grandfather. He has only seen Chaos a handful of times.
"How dare I what?" Chaos smirks.
Poseidon's only wish in that moment is to wipe the smirk of the Primordial's face. He clenched his fist around the trident.
"Lord Chaos, please do not antagonize the sea god," the Fates have arrived, and Clotho spoke. "We have been expecting you Lord Poseidon."
"Why have you interfered with my life? With Rhea's life?" Poseidon asked through gritted teeth.
"Because I can," Chaos replied, only to anger the sea god more.
"Lord Chaos!" Lachesis admonished. The primordial looked a little ashamed by being called out for his behavior. Of course this confused the sea god.
Chaos sighed, "Come, let's sit." He gestured to the edge of the fountain.
Poseidon reluctantly took a seat close to his grandfather, rage still swirling in his eyes.
"You have excellent self-control, Poseidon," Chaos commented.
"Yes, unless you continue to ignore my questions," he replied, nostrils flaring.
"Time means little to an immortal. Yet I have wished that I wouldn't have to speak to you at this time." Chaos sighed, yet continued.
"As you know, I have been the first being in this world, I've been the chaos, the creator of this world, and many worlds like this. Different dimensions, different time lines... I've grown bored over the millennia. It's all different yet the same."
"So you have interfered with my life because you are bored!" Poseidon stated. Just for a single moment, not even a second, he resented Rhea for being in his life. Placed there like a chess piece.
"No, I interfered with Rhea's life. Not yours like you are thinking. I was travelling through one of my worlds, where I found little Rhea. So kind, yet so mistreated," he said somberly. "That is why I gave her to you. I knew you would treat her right. That you would love her like a father should."
"What do you mean mistreated?" Poseidon asked, his anger dwindling towards the powerful being in front of him, yet igniting at the thought of his child being harmed.
"I have taken some of her memories, so that she wouldn't have to deal with the trauma from her previous life. Her parents were awful to her and her end came horribly. I took her soul and gave her to you as a gift. A gift to treasure," he replied seriously.
"But what of her dream that you sent her through Morpheus?" Poseidon asked, still processing the information. He felt the need to get back to his only daughter and...cuddle. Just to make sure she was safe and sound.
"It was needed so that she could open up to you. To tell you the truth. She needs you more than ever. She has carried this burden for her young life, and now she doesn't need to do that anymore," Chaos replied.
"I still don't like it. I still don't like you," Poseidon replied through gritted teeth.
"You don't have to like me," he replied humorously, eyes twinkling. Eyes turning serious, "Just know that I care about Rhea. And will never harm her."
The sea god knew then and there that what the primordial said was the truth.
"What of the prophecy?" the sea god asked.
"What prophecy? Prophecy-smothethy!" Chaos said nonchalantly. "The story has changed Poseidon. The prophecy is invalid."
"I don't understand," he said bewilderingly.
"Lord Chaos, maybe we should explain better," Lachesis chimed in, exasperated.
All the Fates looked exasperated and slightly amused (which pissed Poseidon off even more).
Chaos waved at them to tell them to continue.
"We have weaved and weaved the stories of the worlds. Not only in this world but the next. Everything was in order, exactly as the weaving should go. Until Chaos brought a little chaos into this timeline, also known as Rhea Jackson, our little chaos," Lachesis said and Atropos the inflexible continued, "Her Fate is of her own creation. We might write the story, and we almost never interfere. But she is the one who can change the story."
"What if I want to make her immortal?" Poseidon asked.
"Then I will help you," The Primordial promised.
"What of the other gods?" he asked.
"You must fight and defend if they have a problem with it. Especially that younger brother of yours. He is annoying."
"He is. But will you, Chaos, first primordial protect Rhea?" the sea god asked.
"It depends. If there is no other option. I have shown favoritism towards you and your child. The others will be jealous. You have done well making alliances with the other gods."
"That doesn't really answer my question," Poseidon replied annoyed.
"Get over it. You have come looking for answers. I have given you enough answers for today. If you want to fight me, then you will leave Rhea without a father," he warned, the atmosphere becoming heavy.
Poseidon got up, glared at the four annoyances in front of him, "then I shall take my leave. We will see each other soon."
"That we shall grandson, that we shall."
Poseidon disappeared in a fine mist, back with his family.
"That went well," commented Chaos to the Fates who raised their eyebrows at his statement.
"Poseidon will want to give his daughter immortality sooner rather than later," Clotho remarked.
"Indeed sister," Lachesis and Atropos agreed. "It's not time yet."
"Zeus will do everything in his power to ruin Poseidon. And Kronos will do anything in his limited power to not only gain Rhea as an ally, but to take over her body, her mind," Clotho who spins the thread said.
"That is why she will need her family and friends," Chaos said, pondering.
"Something is coming," Chaos said, "another celestial. I can feel this power. I know not from where, or if it is harmful. I have felt it since the child was reborn. But it is getting stronger."
"Why have you not mentioned this before?" Atropos asked and the others concurred.
"Because whatever power it is, will not be able to overcome my power. I will be leaving soon to explore this. From whichever realm it is coming from, if it is a threat, I will destroy. If it isn't a threat. Then I will probably still destroy it," he answered.
The Fates looked exasperated, being used to Chaos and his mannerisms.
