You should've been gone by now.
You should've already packed your things and hitchhiked away from Hurricane. You should have been long gone.
But you weren't.
There you were, still laying in your uncomfortable bed, staring blankly up at the peeling and slightly yellowing ceiling.
Sunlight was creeping into your room and after a night of sleep that should have given you the energy to enact your plan... you couldn't find it in you to get up.
The memory of Williams' kiss was fuzzy and you couldn't decipher whether or not you had dreamt it all. It was real, you knew it was.
For once, William had shown some form of... care. For once, his action was not cruel or rough or malicious but instead...it was human, it was comforting. His words had echoed in your mind throughout the night:
'You have nobody else in the world but me.'Was that really true?
You couldn't speak to your parents about this, all your college friends moved on with their lives after you dropped out, you were isolated in a town with your murderous secret and nobody to confide in. You were constantly alone after moving to Hurricane but in that moment, you truly felt the weight of your loneliness on you.
You glanced sideways at your bedside table. The lighter lay there motionless... the gift he had given you all those weeks ago. Looking at it now suddenly made you feel less isolated, it was a reminder that there was someone. William.
Despite all his cruelty, he had been there. He knew your secret and you knew his. That almost felt special. You still hated what he did and what he was and yet... there was something about him that drew you in. He confused you completely.
Your eyes moved away from the lighter and towards your clock, you had an hour until you were supposed to be in work. The plan to leave was disintegrating before your eyes and as much as it pained you, you let it. It wasn't meant to be, you didn't have the luxury of being able to leave everything behind.
William was right. You only had him, he was the only one who could possibly understand what you were experiencing and what you had to hide. Perhaps you were already going crazy, but maybe the process would go slower if you had someone to talk to, someone to relate to.
You slowly sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. William was right in that you couldn't just run away from what you did. You were going into work, you were letting the plan die. You were stuck in Hurricane for the time being. Whatever.
Freddy's stood before you once more, much to your annoyance. You couldn't believe that you were still here but then again, you never did commit to plans. You let out a slight groan of frustration before pushing the door open and stepping inside.
As you made your way to the break room to put your bag away, you were slightly caught off guard by the fact that there seemed to be customers for once. There weren't many, a few families and mothers with small children here and there but still, it was a big change from the usual emptiness of the restaurant. For the first time in a few weeks, the place seemed alive with the noise of laughter, chatting and parents yelling at their children for refusing to come down from the SkyTubes.
You kept your eyes on the sudden activity before making your way into the break room and opening your locker, throwing your bag inside. You couldn't believe that you were back in this place after being so adamant that you were never coming back, it was almost embarrassing how quickly that plan went to shit.
As you moved to close your locker, you felt a light tap on your shoulder. You looked over your shoulder to see one of your teenage coworkers standing behind you with a slight frown on his face. Everything you saw one of your coworkers, you wanted to punch them in the face. Not because they were jerks... well no, they were rich arrogant dicks that had been forced to work a summer job by their parents, but they also reminded you of the lost opportunity of college. You wouldn't be in this position if you had just stuck it out, but you were getting off track now.
