☀️based on a story that so far only exists in my head, called summerland☀️

context:
k.q. and o.s. are childhood best friends that meet every summer when the latter's family visits from the uk. they're in love with each other as you might've already guessed.

summary:
k.q. feels a bit sad that he's spending the holidays without his british boyfriend-not-long-ago-best-friend. it's months after the events of the story that only exists in my head. don't question my sanity please I can't explain things.

Kellin didn't want to pick up his phone.

It started ringing a few seconds ago, only two rings so far, but he didn't want to change his comfy position on the beach towel he'd been lying on for an hour. That, and it was so windy he didn't want to move an inch to let any of the cold in. Not that it was cold cold. But that wasn't the point.

He kept gazing at the dark waves crashing in front of him, feeling his phone vibrate in the front pockets of his hoodie. He could imagine Oli debating that it was actually his hoodie, but he had to abide by the boyfriend rules. Any of his hoodies were Kellin's too, by default. And either way, it had been that way even before they were... this.

It was still surreal to think about. That his best friend in the entire world was now his boyfriend and that it had been that way for roughly four months now. It made him smile like an idiot, most of all. Nothing had really changed between them but getting to know Oli like a boyfriend was a crazy notion. So far he was doing great. Not that Kellin had much experience with boyfriends anyway. Still, that wasn't the point.

But thinking about him had Kellin cuddling into the hoodie even more, as if by doing that he would get a glimpse of Oli's scent and pretend for a second he was there with him. He closed his eyes as he breathed in deeply. There it was, that distinct sandalwood fragrance he always wore mixed with something so inherently Oli that Kellin loved. And there he was too, smiling like an idiot.

Until his phone buzzed again. And again, and again, and again. So Kellin sighed and sat back up.

"Someone needs to get a hint," Kellin shook his head as he finally took out his phone, finally seeing who was bothering him so much.
