Penelope Quinn had a plan, an infallible one. She didn't know the meaning of the word "infallible" though, she'd heard it only once before from one of her aunties while they were discussing grown-up things with her dad. But the word stuck with her and it seemed to fit what she was about to do.

It was a secret. Daddy said secrets weren't good but this one was necessary. She wanted to surprise him, after all. It would be a Christmas surprise. Daddy didn't seem to be as excited as she was for Christmas and that made her a little worried. Now that was a word she knew the meaning of. Daddy seemed to be worried about everything all the time, but maybe her surprise would change that.

Penny absentmindedly stuck out her tongue as she finished folding the red and green papers carefully, so as not to wrinkle or spill any of the contents. She was at school, in her classroom, sitting at her desk, and putting her plan in motion. She could hear her classmates playing outside, all loud and having fun. She didn't like feeling left out, but she was willing to sacrifice her entire recess for her scheme. She had thought it all perfectly and felt lucky that Ms. Juniper didn't force everyone to go out during the break. Sometimes those were the worst recesses. And her plan would've failed already.

When she finished her task at hand, she smiled proudly and lifted her envelope in the air to see her creation a lot better. On the front, she had drawn the recipient and his initial. She was so glad that she knew how to do it thanks to all the lessons they'd been learning lately, and she drew herself and Daddy in the back, to make it extra clear who it came from. She really hoped he liked it.

Then came the next step of the infallible plan.

She watched out for anyone around, making sure no one was looking at her, especially the adults. Her heart raced at this, she didn't want anyone busting her plan. But she got her brave suit on, the one Ms. Juniper talked about a few weeks ago, and stood up from her seat. She was startled at the screeching sound it made but shook it off quickly.
