My little twin brother and I have been planning this runaway plan for months. We hate it here with our mother and where we live. Everyone thinks that my brother, Pablo, and I are crazy for saying that our mother is mean and verbal abusive. It because when we're home with her, she always yells and calls us names, and lies. She even steals our money. So much for a mother. I walked outside with the hot sun hitting my tan skin. I lifted Pablo's suitcase into the trunk of the car he bought for this trip. It was a much older car but it's going to work.

"Sister!" Pablo called from the house. "We need to pick the tortillas and cheeses, maybe the leftover tamales, too!" Pablo exclaimed.

Pablo has been learning English for months now. I've tried but I've been busy working extra hours for enough money for passports and getting out of the country. I closed the trunk and walked into the house. I grabbed plastic bins and grabbed food. I put it in the bins as Pablo came in with a cooler. He filled it with ice and I put the food in the cooler. We had another cooler in the garage for drinks. He grabbed another plastic bin and helped me put more food in the bins and the coolers. I put the top on a bin and put it in the cooler. We heard a knock on the door and we both paused. I turned to Pablo as he looked down at me.

"I got it." I said. I walked to the door and opened it.

It was Señora Vaséquez. She always treated us so well. She was kind, gentle and was the only one that believed our problems with our mother. She saw what she did since she lived directly across the street.

"Señora Vaséquez. What are you doing here?" I asked.

"You and your brother will be on a long journey. I thought it'd be best if I brought some extra food for you." Señora Vaséquez offered.

I smiled and grabbed it from her. It was carne asada with some salsa. I smiled at her kind gesture.

"Gracias." I said.

Señora Vaséquez smiled.

"May God bless you and your brother." Señora Vaséquez blessed.

I smiled and hugged her. A few tears escaped my eyes, but Señora Vaséquez pulled away and wiped them away. She stepped off the porch and walked back to her house. I smiled sadly and closed the door. I walked back wiping the tears away from my eyes. I went to the garage and dragged the cooler to the car. I lifted it into the car and closed the door. We're all ready. I sighed and looked around the town. Bad and good memories. Pablo came next to me and stood next to me. He wrapped an arm around me as we looked round.

"Ready to start a new beginning?" Pablo asked.

I turned to him and nodded. He patted my shoulder then pulled away. He walked to the driver side of the car and got in. I opened my door and got into the car. I buckled myself along with Pablo and he turned on the car. We both sighed as he started to pull out of the driveway. Pablo and I never discussed where we were going. We just said far away from here and out of the country. That's why we have passports. We were driving for a good half an hour and on the highway. I just wondered, where are we going. I turned to Pablo as he paid attention to the road.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

He turned to me then looked back at the road. "You're asking that now?" Pablo asked.

"All we said was that we'd get far away from home. We never discussed where we were exactly going." I reminded Pablo.

He sighed and rubbed his forehead. He had sweat running down his forehead then down his shoulders. He tapped the wheel, thinking of where to go. He obviously didn't think of where to go. "We have passports, right?" Pablo asked. I nodded. "You know about the United States?" Pablo asked.

"Everyone does. Mamá always said when Papá was that we'd take a trip there someday." I reminded Pablo.

"Then let's go to the United States. We'll have a better life. I her that they play Selena's music there all the time." Pablo told me.
I lit up at that. Selena is one of my favorite artists. I love Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. "We can go to a big city." Pablo said.

"Detroit?" I suggested.

"Too much snow." Pablo declined.

"Boston?"

"Snow."

"Seattle?"

"More snow. It always looks cloudy there anyway." Pablo admitted. I sighed and thought hard. Dallas, Orlando, Austin.

"New York City?" I asked.

"What is it with you and snow?" Pablo asked.

"We've never seen it. This could be a big chance." I answered. Pablo rolled his eyes as he kept driving. I sighed and thought again. "Los Angeles?" I asked.

"Now I like the way you think." Pablo answered. I sighed and my head hit the headrest.

"Can we try New York?" I asked. "Niagara Falls. Pizza. People." I said. Pablo turned to me and looked back at the road. "Please, New York." I begged. I grabbed Pablo's hand and shook him. "Please." I begged.

"Hey! I'm the man so I decide where we go." Pablo aid. I turned to him offended. He turned to me curiously. "What?" Pablo asked.

"One sexist, two, I'm older than you!" I corrected Pablo.

"By three minutes!" Pablo reminded me. I groaned and rolled my eyes.

I crossed my arms and looked out the window for the rest of the day's ride until it was dusk. Pablo drove on a country road until he pulled over next to a field. He turned the car off and got out. I opened the trunk and grabbed food and a drink. I grabbed the carne asada Señora Vaséquez made for Pablo and I. Pablo started a small fire and I took the carne out and put it on the metal pan. Pablo held it as it warmed up. We sat in the field as the sun went down. We looked at the sun go down a we sat in the field with the sun go down. Pablo took the meat off the pan and split it into two. I took a bite out of the meat.

"What do you think the States are like?" I asked Pablo.

He thought as he looked down at the ground. He looked back up and inhaled.

"Full of excitement, travel, and new things." Pablo answered. "You?" Pablo asked. I thought about it as I tapped my foot on the ground.

"Life, fun, and new beginnings." I answered. I looked at Pablo and he smiled. He wrapped an 'em around my neck and pulled me in for a hug. I smiled as we hugged. A new begging is coming with my favorite brother.

Third Person POV

Jasmine and Pablo fell asleep in the car and Jasmine fell asleep in the driver seat as Pablo fell asleep in the passenger seat. There was a faint blue light in front of the car waking up Jasmine. She blinked a few times adjusting to the light. Pablo was still asleep and Jasmine looked at her brother. She turned on the car and started to drive towards the blue light. She drive the car slowly but before touching it she stopped. Jasmine hesitated and gulped. She was so intrigued by the blue light that she just had to know what it was. She stepped in the pedal and went through. She screamed as she started falling in the car, waking up Pablo. He got so scared and screamed along with Jasmine. They saw a road below them and the car landed on the ground in its wheels. Pablo and Jasmine couldn't move of what just happened. Pablo turned to Jasmine and gulped.

"Remind me to never let you drive my car." Pablo told me. I nodded and sighed. I placed my forehead in the wheel happy that I'm alive.
