VioletteThe newspaper rustled underneath my fingers as I sat on the park's bench. Alone. A lovely couple began to walk past me slowly, their laughter dying down when they saw my state.
Their expression changed into pity, that's the only feeling I ever received from people. Pity because I'm so young and homeless, or disgust because of my clothes, messy hair, and pale dirty skin.
"Poor girl.." The woman whispered as she glanced over at me, I ignored the humiliating gaze. The newspapers scrunched up under my clenching fist.
I didn't ask for this life, I never wanted this. But what can I do about it? They're gone,
A small droplet fell on the back of my hand, I looked up and noticed the gloomy sky, even Mother Nature pities me.
More drops began to fall and speckle all over my face, the rain hid away my tears, but the redness and gloss in my eyes stayed.
I shut my eyes and enjoyed the feeling of the rain. It felt calming, it washes away my pain.
"Young lady, why aren't you carrying your umbrella?" A shadow casted over me, I opened my eyes to see an umbrella blocking the rain from me. "You should go home before you are sick." The old woman said, gently and with care.
I gave her a comforting smile and nodded my head in affirmation. 'I will go home.'
"That's it my dear." She coed then walked away with her umbrella.
The rain once again greets me.
The days were getting darker, the place I slept in yesterday is gone due to construction. Now I have nowhere.
I can't do it anymore, living like this is the same as not being alive anymore.
Nothing is keeping me alive, I would be pretty much the same if I was dead. Nobody cares about me.
I got up from the wet bench and walked wherever my legs could take me which felt like forever. Then I remembered, there was an empty parking lot building down the street.
So I walked there. I spotted the gray tall building from a few blocks away and began to approach it.
Not a single car was inside the building, it's probably abandoned since people are so scared it will collapse one day and crush their car.
The building is old, with cracks and missing pillars. Nature was slowly overtaking the place.
I stepped inside, my footsteps echoing in the depths of emptiness, the concrete scratches against my torn shoes made my ear twitch.
From the corner of the parking lot is the path that leads to the next level of parking lots. I walked up the path and onto the next level, then the next, then the next. Until finally I was at the very top.
It was wet up here, there were a few large puddles formed from small dents in the parking spaces.
In this moment, everything went quiet, the view was relaxing, it felt like I was really flying, but I can still feel the weight of gravity pulling me down.
I walked closer to the ledge and stepped on it. Peaking over the edge. This is high...I take in one massive breath then my right foot lifted up and moved forward.
I knew what I wanted, this was it. All the happy memories I had will be gone, people say your life flashes before your eyes before you die.
And I see it happening.
The only image that came to my mind was the family photo, where I was carried by dad while mom kissed my cheeks. The family photo that was taken 10 years ago is coming back to me.
