One of my friends wrote Carnalitn, and I've been waiting for an update that has yet to come, so I'm taking matters into my own hands. I'm half kidding. It's very good, so you should go read it and show your support for her! :)

Yves-- male. cute.

Ivy-- female. hot.

Honestly, I don't know much about the characters yet. I've just been really excited about it for some reason. I'm more just hoping that this is in-character.

The door of the classroom is wide open when I get there. Hesitantly, I peer in to find nearly two dozen people already paired up with their chess partners, setting up boards and pieces while the rare few are already playing. I enter slowly, surveying the room when I finally spot the only person without a pair.

I approach her desk cautiously. "May I sit?" I ask.

The girl looks up at me. It's strange, but I would recognize those cherry red lips anywhere. "Only if you're not completely incompetent at chess," she responds slyly.

A pitiful sigh escapes my lips. "I know how to play," I tell her. I learned from my sisters.

"Then why haven't you moved?" she asks.

I glance down at the board. I'm playing white. White opens.

I sit down at the desk and open, moving the pawn in front of my queen out two spaces. That's the only actual chess move I know. The queen's gambit.

She smirks and moves a pawn in front of her knight out.

"You're not playing white?" I ask her, moving a pawn to open up my bishop.

"I'm feeling in a generous mood," she says shortly, confidently moving another pawn.

That's all the beginning of our game is. Pawns moved around. One of us too scared to pull out any of their precious pieces. The other toying with the first.

As I sit here thinking, she pulls a lollypop out of her bag. Red. Cherry flavored. I wet my lips, thinking about how hers most undoubtedly taste like cherry candy, and move out my queen.

"Oh," she grimaces, moving her queen too.

I look up at her with pleading eyes. I don't know if I can win, but it's not like I have a choice about playing her. She watches me carefully, sending a clear message. If I lose, I'm nothing, but I'm not allowed to win either.

I move my bishop to cover my queen. 

Her eyebrow shoots up. If I took her queen with mine, I would have lost a queen. I can't afford to do that so early in the game. It's called pawn sacrifice, not queen sacrifice.

Her movements are lazy. She moves her pieces confidently, as though she knows she's going to win.

I wipe the sweat from my palms on my trousers. It's so unfair. She makes me nervous, and she's obviously the better chess player. Her moves are so calm and calculated. And her watchful eyes and cherry lollypop aren't helping me win at all.

Finally, she moves her knight away from her king. I study the board for a moment. I think my eyes deceive me. I rub my eyes and look at the board again. I was nervous, so I went on the attack pretty early on, but now I'm winning. Even with the foolish mistakes I made, I'm winning. I take her precious knight and look up at her. Now I see it. Her face has gone a shade lighter. That's why her cherry red lips look so bright.

With her back in a corner, she moves a pawn.

I know I'm not playing with my sisters, so there's no reason to be petty, but I can't help it. I ignore her king and take the pawn.

She moves another pawn out, clearly gunning for another queen. I take it too.

With a little smirk, she puts my queen under pressure. I panic and maneuver out of there. Then I blink and she takes my bishop. I was using that. 

Being as petty as I am, I take the rest of her pieces save a pawn, and back her king into a corner.

That damned cherry lollypop falls out of her mouth as I say to her, "checkmate."

A sharp pain pierces my temple with enough force to knock me out of my chair. I look up at her pretty face and she's holding her hand against her breast. Tenderly, I raise a hand up and touch my raw face. 

She slapped me. 

And I still have the gall to think she's the prettiest, smartest girl I've ever seen? Just shoot me now. 

I want to go home.
