As the sun cracks through the window blinds into a bedroom, an alarm goes off. Sluggishly, a hand goes to turn off the alarm and completely ignore it until the voice of a woman echoes throughout the house. "Yahiro!! It's time to wake up!!" There was a small pause before the woman began to yell again. "Yahiro!!! You've got school in an hour!! We don't need you to be late on your last day!!" As the yelling continued, a young boy slowly climbed out of his bed and let out a small yawn. Yahiro stood and stretched, quickly showering and dressing himself in his school uniform. Today was the last day of school before the students were to begin applying for the hero academy of their choice. As Yahiro made his way downstairs, his mother had breakfast made and was sipping on her coffee eyes locked to the TV screen.
Yahiro sat and listened to the television with his mother. The news anchors were discussing the newest HQ of the Mikitaka Corporation based in Tokyo. Yahiro's mother shook her head and let out a sigh. "Another Corporation...at least your father's company can take a break. They had them working relentlessly."
Yahiro quietly ate his breakfast and stood, silently grabbing his bag and walking toward the door. "Mom I'm leaving now."
"Ok, Honey! Be careful going to school! You never know what could happen!"
With that, Yahiro left his home and began his walk to school. During his lonely walk, Yahiro was stuck in thought about several things. His father finally came home after months of construction, the final day of school, and which academies he was going to apply to. He had several ideas but none were as ambitious as Desert Winds Academy, a school many apply for and few ever see.
"Yahiro!!! Wait up!!!"
In the distance, a voice could be heard which stopped Yahiro in his tracks and caused him to turn. A young man could be seen in the distance running towards Yahiro before immediately appearing in front of him. "Hey! What's up Yahiro?"
"Oh, hey Saito. Took ya long enough."
Saito kept a snarky grin as he and Yahiro walked toward their school. After a few seconds, Saito struck up a conversation to fight the awkward silence. "So, Yahiro? Are you excited about leaving that shithole?"
Yahiro took a second to answer before coming up with a short, simple answer. "Yeah, took long enough. What about you?"
Saito smiled and pulled out his application for Desert Winds. "Oh yeah! I'm making sure that I get into Desert Winds!"
Yahiro kept walking while Saito talked about his ideas about being a hero and the benefits that could come with it. While the pair kept walking, they stopped at a bus stop and the pair read one of the holographic news projectors that talked about the recent arrest of a wanted Serial Killer.
"Kiyoshi Shinko? After weeks on the run with unconfirmed reports of 76 victims, he was finally caught with the help of 3 heroes. He is set to be locked in the lowest level of The Black Mountain Prison."
Saito let out a sigh of relief after reading the news. "Glad they finally caught him. My parents were pretty worried about this guy." Saito smiled again this time with curiosity. "I wonder what powers he had to stand up to 3 professional heroes...must have been powerful."
"Looks like he was hiding with the Crimson Rider Gang. Says here that when the heroes arrived, they found the area surrounded by bodies. Brutal.." Yahiro let out a sigh and thought about what would have happened if they hadn't caught him.
As the pair chatted their bus arrived and the two rode off to their school, prepared for the last day and the start of their futures. During the Bus Ride, Yahiro stared out the window and the massive buildings that stood tall over the city.
